[Insurance Experts] Would homeowners insurance pay for a bad shooting?

Any insurance experts here?

Reference the case where the guy in Clarksville is being sued civilly for shooting the kid that was banging on doors.

Would the Home Owners insurance and its limits of liability be in play in that civil case?

I’m asking specifically if this guy didn’t own anything worth winning in a judgment, but he had homeowners insurance would his limits of liability be available as a reason for the victims family to settle?

Just a guess......... I would think there is probally something in the policy on not paying on unlawful acts. Then if charges are filed they could use that clause.

I am not a legal eagle here. Heck, I haven't even taken my hand gun class yet. Hopefully that is next Month if I get the day off at work.

But Check out this.

If you shoot someone in your home, your homeowner’s insurance will not pay for your defense. Consider Pre-paid Legal, or an umbrella liability policy. Or forget spending money on a gun and get a life insurance policy: if the creep kills you, the insurance company will pay out to your beneficiaries

that being said, if Insurance wont' pay defense for what appears to be a legit shooting, dont' believe they will a bad shooting either.

State Farm said that even with our umbrella policy, it "depends on the situation." I read that as "NO!"
