Opinions on Sig 239 for CCW

Dear fellow TGO'ers:____________

I need to add another cannon to the arsenal. I am thinking about a SIG 239 (...lightly used of course; maybe a SIG refurbish...). I noticed that while the dimensions are good; the weight is a bit high (... about 29 OZ empty....). Please let me know your thoughts on these little jewels; especially with regard to CCW. It looks to me like they would have to be carried in a GOOD belt holster of some kind. Range reports and carry methods would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Leroy

It is a great size, and a wonderful shooter. I had one in .357sig for a few years and always carried it. The biggest drawbacks are the weight and the limited capacity. I carry a Glock now, but often miss the quality and noticably better accuracy of the SIG.

The weight isn't excessive... it's like carrying a compact 1911. The 2 reasons that I chose something else was the capacity and my dislike of DA/SA triggers. I should have held out for a P239 SAS.

I carry a 239/.40 fairly often in the summer. Milt Sparks VMII on a a Beltman belt. It is a nice flat pistol and the grip is short and not too thick so it's easy to conceal under a t-shirt.

The factory grips are too small for a lot of people. I put Nill walnut grips on mine and like them a lot. The hogue rubber grips are popular and feel great. Many people don't like the flat front strap of the 239, and the Hogues with finger grooves fix this.

I had Hogues on mine and liked them, but couldn't conceal the gun without a cover garment, so I traded it - the 239 just didn't work for me as far as what I wanted out of a compact pistol. While the 239 was a legitimate pleasure to shoot at the range, it didn't fit my needs, despite it being a very nice firearm.

If you can make it disappear, it's a fine shooter. I decided that since I needed to cover it anyways, I might as well get a 229 for the winter, and find something else for shorts and t-shirts. YMMV.
