I have had good luck with the Remington Subs and CCI. I have also fired 50 or so the the Aquilla SSS 60 grains rounds. So far so good. I have used them in my S&W 422, Savage Mark II and AR with CMMG Conversion with great results through my Mite and buddies YHM 556 Phantom.

Winchester Super-X Ammunition Subsonic 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Truncated Cone Hollow Point Box of 50 - MidwayUSA

This in a rifle.

In a handgun it depends on the barrel length. 3" use the HV stuff, It will be subsonic out of the short barrel. If you go longer than that you will need to play around with different loads to keep it subsonic.

For general plinking, I use CCI subsonic, or Remington subsonic. For accuracy work, I use Wolf match target. The Wolf ammo is extremely accurate in both my pistols and rifles, and remains subsonic in my Sig 522, CZ 452 16", and Browning Buckmark.

CCI Mini-Mags stay subsonic. They are pretty easy to find, and as quiet as any regularly available ammo I've fired through any suppressor.

I've heard horror stories on the 60gr SSS rounds. They can have a tough time stabilizing and thus cause baffle strikes. If I were going to shoot them, it would be out of a weapon designed to stabilize them.

Mini-Mags come in 36gr and 40gr varieties so stick with the 40gr to minimize your fps.

Barrel length on a MkIII also makes a difference. If its 4" or less you can fire the Federal bulk 550 stuff from walmart and stay subsonic w/ a suppressor. Its as cheap .22 gets but I don't think its reliable enough for Gary Faulkner to take out sentry dogs in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border while hunting Bin Laden.
