DMV HCP Renewal

Recommended Posts

I live in Mt Juliet, I am now in the six month period before my permit expires. I ordered the forms Online several weeks ago, they have never shown, with the flooding the city had that is very understandable

What is the best DMV for me to do this relatively close to Mt Juliet?

I have used the one in Lebanon and Gallatin with good results. It was over six months

for my renewal to come back. This way you will have a copy of it if needed. Make sure you take proof of US citizenship. Better yet call to see exactly what you need to bring.

Do you have the option to do it online? Or by mail? I sent mine in by mail with the renewal check 2 months before it expired. They sent me a receipt with a temporary permit in case my new one didn't come in less than a week. I got my new permit in 3 weeks. Good luck

That is about the fastest that I have heard of so far. Mine expires next year so I'm watching threads about renewals. I don't remember how long my first one took but now I'm hearing that they can really be a long wait.

I wish they would go to an online renewal.

I thought that it was 6 months. If that's right you should do it ASAP in case it does take a while. I'm sure someone else will know for sure.

I guess I was right.

How to Renew Your Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit

* Your handgun carry permit will expire four (4) years from the date it is issued.

* Renewals can be submitted up to six (6) months prior to the expiration date.

* If the handgun carry permit has been expired greater than 6 months past the expiration date, the applicant will have to start the complete original application process. This includes completing a handgun safety course, paying the $115 fee, being fingerprinted and undergoing a background check.

* Permit Holders whose permit has not expired and are renewing their permit, may legally carry their handgun with the receipt provided from their application. Permit Holders whose permit have expired and are renewing their permit, cannot lawfully carry a handgun until they receive their new permit.

* The renewal fee for a handgun carry permit is $50.00. Upon approval of the renewal application, a new permit will be mailed to the Handgun Carry Permit Applicant.

* A permit holder can submit a Renewal Application at any Driver Service Center or renew by mail. To receive a renewal application by mail call (615) 251-8590. The renewal application must be complete and signed by the applicant. The application and the $50.00 fee payable by check or money order can be mailed to the following address:
