Get cheap Iphone 3Gs now...or wait for 4G?

Wouldn't that be handled at the OS level, not at the app level?

From what I understand, the new OS will handle it, if the app has it.

I could be completely wrong, since I am not a tech guy and a newbie.:dropjaw:

Yep. iPhone 3GS will allow almost every iPhone 4 feature. Facetime is one that I think will not be supported. iPhone 3G is going to get the shaft with no multitasking though. BOO! Oh well. My upgrade is in September. I'll just upgrade then!

Actually you won't have to wait, I have read from several places, that if you can upgrade as far out as November, you will be allowed to go ahead and do it.

If your contract is up within 2010, AT&T is offering immediate upgrade eligibility. That per Steve Jobs during the WWDC keynote. An easy choice for me as a 3G user and with a broken screen no less. Just sayin'... :dropjaw:

I just wish I knew when the upgrade is available. They say "coming soon" but have a definitive date for the release of the new phone. Come on, gimmy gimmy gimmy!

June 24th. Preorders start the 15th.

-Edit: Sorry if you're talking about the OS update then I have no clue.

They said June 21 I think during the keynote. But double check me on that. It definitely has been set though. Amuses me how we get when new toys are on the horizon. We become like 6-year-olds who can't wait a week or two.

Usually, the update won't come out until the phone does.

I haven't had time to watch the keynote so I didn't know that about the upgrades. Well I guess I will be getting one in July then. Maybe august. I'm not really in a hurry and I know how quickly these things sell out.

All i(devices phone/pad/touch) can upgrade to the iOS 4 free on June 21

Multi-tasking will work on a iPhone 3Gs but not a 3G.

Of course some iOS 4 features that require an iPhone 4 will not work on a 3G/3Gs/Pad/Touch

As said before iPhone 4 Pre-orders June 15 Ship on June 24 16gb $199 or 32gb $299

If your AT&T contract expires anytime in 2010 you can upgrade to iPhone 4

Now for me....I did not get a 3Gs so whatever I do I will have to get the 2gb or 200mb data plan.

I can get a refurbed HTC Tilt 2 for free as an upgrade. I have a Dell Axim now (don't use it as much as I used to) so it would be sort of like putting my current phone and current PDA together...or get the iPhone 4. Of course the biggest difference (to me) is the price. If I had and extra $300...then no question.

So will have to see what the wallet looks like between now and then I guess... :)

I wouldn't buy the cheap 3Gs. I bought a 3G right when the 3GS came out and have been kicking myself for not waiting a couple weeks!

Well I think a 3Gs with the iOS 4 softward would be closer to a iPhone 4 than the 3G was to the 3Gs (if that makes any sense).

But a 3Gs is $99...so if I was going to do that...would go a bit more and the the 4...

Don't know if this will help those who are still out past 2010 for their upgrades but a friend of mine whose contract doesn't expire till August 2011 just called AT&T and they said they will give him $200 off the $499 or $599 no contract pricing of the new Iphones if he renews for two more years. So basically he'd have to pay just $100 more to get either one early. Not too bad if you really really want one.
