Long story, too long for a forum, Short version, 3 heart-attacks in 7 days. the 3rd. one after I'd been flown to Vandy. When I got there, fever 106, No discernible blood pressure, only 6% heart left. Tnnixon's job was to get me well enough to get listed for transplant. I coded EVERY night the first 2 weeks. No one, I mean no one would give any odds on my living long enough to get a heart. After 45 days on 7 South the CICU, I moved over to 7 North, the step-down unit, and June the 3rd. 1998 I received a 16 yr. old heart. Trevor took care of me through it all, and really there were a lot of ups and downs, and the downs were severe!!! He did a lot more than just his job!!!! He not only took care of me, he also was really great to my wife and family, just so kind. He became a real friend to me. It was really a pleasant surprise to find him on TGO. Now it's much easier to keep in touch. So that's the short version, a lot more to it, but I don't want to bore anyone nor offend anyone. I realize some only believe in science and in man's abilities, so I'll not discuss the rest. Sorry, this was still too long. It's hard to cram 3 months into a few sentences.

Great story!

If you spent time on 7 or 10, I only missed you by about six months. I did all of my acute care internship between 7 North and 10 North.

Proof, dude, that there are angels among us.

One morning I woke up and another nurse was sitting in a chair in my room. She wasn't the one tak'n care of me that night. I had that breathing tube down my throat , so on my tablet I wrote and asked what was wrong, I could tell she had been crying. She said, and I'll never forget it. " I lost all three patients tonight, and I had to come in here, there's a peace and comfort in this room that I feel, I can't explain it. I knew what it was, and she found HIM too.

Dude, you just made me tear up. Those were the best years of my entire career and you were one of the best patients I have ever taken care of. I have taken care of 1000's of people over the years. I only remember a few and you are definately one of them. Thanks for leaving a lasting impact on my heart. Guys like you are what makes my life have meaning, and for that, I am truely grateful.

Happy anniversary!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your anniversary and thank you for sharing your story with us. God's mercy and love for His people is deep and compelling. I love how even in the midst of your ordeal, His grace allowed you to be a blessing to that nurse.

AMEN!

Wow should be a bigger word. I am very happy for you. It's great to hear stories like this with happy endings!

That's another reason for everyone to be signed up as an organ donor. I am.

I'm sure the family of the 16 yr old donor gets some consolation that someone benefited from their child's death.

For every heart transplant we are able to do, two people must die. The person who originally owned that heart and the person who needed it just as bad as it's ultimate recipiant. It is a great gift to recieve an organ, but it's also a great responsibilty. One must take care of it so that those two people did not die in vain.

Ricky, you have done honor to those two.

Congratulations, brother! We know where your healing came from, and from Whom. I'm glad that, through your ordeal, another soul was brought to Him.

Wo. I can't get that last w out. As screwed up as we are, there is some special quality about humans. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Thanks to all, for all the kind words. I truly have been blessed. It's just....... I didn't start this thread to be about me... I'm not " the center of attention " type guy, I prefer the background. We have members all across the state and more. I bet there's a few that know some, and most that know a few. I just wanted to let everyone know about one of our members , tnnixon , that I'm very grateful too, and that all of us should be proud to have as a fellow member. He makes a difference in peoples lives everyday. It's all thanks to this forum, that I was able to re-connect with him, since I no longer get to Vandy often. I had to start getting my care at the VA and had lost touch with him. Once again, thanks TGO! My sincere prayer is that GOD continues to bless each and everyone. Even if someone doesn't believe in GOD, and I respect their right to do so. It doesn't change the fact, that I'm a walking , talking, breathing miracle, and that Trevor played a large part in it, and that I'll never forget him.
