Liberal Groups Want FCC to Police Talk Radio, Cable News

Talk radio and opposing points of view are under attack by the progressives.

Just some 1st amendment stuff to think about.

From my daily email... ain't gonna happen. Those groups have been whining for years.

Should the FCC be monitoring “hate speech†on the air?

A loose coalition of more than 30 public interest organizations like the Center of Media Justice are petitioning the FCC to monitor alleged “hate speech†on programs that are “masquerading as news.†They say the Internet is changing the playing field, that it “gives the illusion that news sources have increased, but in fact there are fewer journalists employed now than ever before.†The Julius Genachowski FCC may be sympathetic to the complaint about the decline in the number of journalistic voices – but don’t expect it to get anywhere near a proposal to regulate content labeled “hate speech.†Heck, it’s having enough trouble with indecency and obscenity, after decades of court decisions that gave it the explicit authority to regulate for those. That link is dead, but I believe you:D

The trouble with this is that since they know the fairness doctrine won't

pass after November, hopefully no more laws passed after November for

a long time, they will try Net Neutrality and stick provisions in for broader

FCC powers, like they did in the Healthcare bill. There's also currently, a

bill going through congress giving Homeland Security some version of absolute power over the internet during emergency. I wonder which emergency they are thinking of.

They package this 'stuff' in innocuous language in a big bill and it doesn't

get any scrutiny, until after it's voted on. Does that sound familiar?

The more I think of Homeland Security and the"Patriot Act" the sicker I feel.

The link was just a copy of what you posted. The fcc isn't going to touch this, now matter how much more power they're given.
