Advice on AR reconfig?

Guys,

I need some advice. I have two ARs, but neither are exactly what I'm currently looking for. AR#1 is a 20" bushmaster vmatch (flat top with 20" aluminum free float tube. AR#2 is a 16" M-forgery with A2 upper. I am wanting an M4 clone with an eotech or acog. Any thoughts on how to pull this off without breaking the bank. I'd be interested in swapping upper receiver on AR#2 to a flat top, but I don;t know how difficult this is. Or should I just sell both and start over?

Well you could SBR AR#2 and get a Flattop with a shorter BBL. Then you have the option of going 16 or say 10.5 with a RD sight.

If you have a friend that has the tools you will need you can put a flat top receiver on in less than an hour for less than $100.00.

If you don't have a friend with the tools and you don't mind to travel 100 miles I would be happy to help you.

this. Even if you have to take it to your local smith it would be worth it.

Call Predator Custom in Knoxville. They are at the end of Papermill Rd. They will likely have a flat top upper as well as be able to swap it out for a reasonable amount of money. They have done a lot of work for me in the past and have always surprized me with how reasonable they are. They are great guys as well.

If all you are wanting to do is swap the upper is simple. You might need to buy a receiver block if you want to try yourself but I suspect by the time you consider the cost in both parts and your time Predator will be cheaper.

You will need a punch (don't remember what size right now) to remove the roll pin from the gas tube in the front sight block, a barrel wrench, a torque wrench, a vise, and an upper receiver vise block.

OK, I think I have every thing but the vise block.

I may run by predator. I need to get a quote on getting a PT1911 refinished. Everyone is pointing me to these guys.

If you're interested. I'm getting ready to build an A2 style AR. I'm buying a flattop Double Star upper from my buddy. I would trade you upper receivers. We have all the toold to swap everything.

My advice is if you're not married to that barrel is to just buy an already barrelled A3 upper and sell your A2 to cut down on cost.

By the time you buy all the tools and vise block, time invested in learning how to do it right, and the likely hood that you will change barrels enough times to justify the cost of setup, or send it to a gunsmith, the new upper will cost way less.

I think I'm just going to sell the entire V-match as is, then pickup an entire upper for the doublestar m4. I think there's a gun show coming up, so I'll try to sell this stuff there.
