Irritated with the drivers license office

Recommended Posts

Just had to renew my drivers license for the first time in I don't know how long. The bill said $37, and I thought OK, not so bad. I went online to pay it and they itemized the bill: $2 (processing fee) $17.50 (drivers license) and another $17.50 for my motorcycle endorsement.

Just exactly why do I have to pay double for the privilege of driving a motorcycle? They should be giving me a discount on the fact that a motorcycle is very fuel efficient and is "green".

I can see adding a few dollars to cover the cost of extra processing, or the one-time ever test you have to take, but double? It's like I had to get two seperate licenses.

I keep full coverage on the bike and against other drivers if I have an accident. I also have excellent healthcare insurance. So, it's not like the state is going to get stuck with any bill I may owe.

It's not about the money. Like I said, I thought $37 was OK, untill I found out what every one else pays.

OK, I feel better now.

Why not pay $17.50 for the class M and $2 for class D? Both are a license class. They're $17.50 each. You can always drop the D and just drive a motorcycle at all times for $17.50. It sucks, but it is what it is...

That's not that awful. Last time I renewed my CDL, it was either $40.00 or $50.00, and had to be done in person. At least you could do yours without having to drive to the DMV and wait!

Should be $40 for a class A and $35 for class B or C. And if you have a motorcycle license, it's still another $17.50...

Going to the Department of Safety ranks right up there with going for a colonoscopy. Going to get your carry permit renewed is a real adventure, too. One thing about it, you see every segment of society, that's fer sure.

I'm ok with paying 30 or so bucks to have a Class D license with an M endorsement renewed. However, what really burns me is that it costs $75+ to renew my motorcycle tag in Davidson County!

Hee hee. I love stopping someone folks with a "BM" license. It usually makes me chuckle. So much so that I usually let 'em go with only a stern finger wave... ;)

Quit yer bellyaching. I remember when I could renew my tags for less than $140 a year. Move to Memphis if you dont believe me. It's sad. Granted that's for specialty plates, but the regular tags are $108.00. :usa:
