Scope Mount curse

Mike you are right. i have sent Ruger an e-mail. My gun has an aftermarket stock. I understand if the gun has been modified they won't accept them. Worth a try. I looked at the rings and mine need about .060" to get the front one aligned. i don't know what that would equate to in MOA 100 yds, down range but I am guessing it would be significant. If I have to fix it i am going to work on the rings only. I can set the ring up in the mill and take .030" off the leading edge of the surface that sits into the eyebrow cut in the receiver. i will mount it and measure to see if that moves the ring right on the receiver. If it doesn't I will relieve the angle a bit and keep installing and measuring until it moves.

I have a patch on the problem and can use the gun until I can hear from Ruger. spent a little time on the front scope ring and massaged it until head of the bolt that tightens up against the right side of the receiver boss was flush inside of its bore in the ring. Set my scope pretty much back to the center of windage and elevation adjustments and was on the paper at 50 yds in two shots. Plenty of room for adjustment now. I want to thank Mike and OS for the discussion as it let me think about what the gun needed and read what others had said. If Ruger will fix the gun I will send it back. It is not the best rifle I have but I sure enjoy shooting it. Kind of feels like driving a nail with a sledge hammer. Now I would like to try one of the barrel supports i have seen on other Mini's. any suggestions on mfg?

Mike just bought one, I forgot which one, he'll probably answer...

Is yours a pre-580 series, before the improved barrel?

They are the ones that will benefit the most, it's generally said.

Mike, I've forgotten which you have... is that the older straight diameter barrel, or the newer 580-581 one with thicker tapering design?

Meaning, not sure the double clamp would work on the newer ones?

580 series. Little over a year old

Gotcha, so that first clamp just goes on after the barrel narrows down to consistent size.

And have you shot with it enough to get real before/after accuracy comparison?

I have the same stock set-up on mine. Have not got a bipod yet. I really like the way the gun feels and shoots. I look forward to getting the Accu-strut. I would like to shoot 3MOA groups at 100yds.

That is impressive. kind of refutes several remarks i have heard about the gun by non-belivers. Proves that if you spend a little time and have the discipline things work. Thanks for all your help on my problem.

The older ones deserved the reputation. The 16" 580 barrel is pretty solid, and the accustrut seems to make it better. The accustrut will tame yours alot. Worth the 100 bucks.

My next move is a trigger job ($85) when Gun Doc opens back up. Another $35 to cryo treat the barrel, and I'll probably stop.

I have never had to use their service, but they have a great reputation for making things right. Good luck with it.

I'm fixing to break mine apart too. Trigger group is heading out west for some whittling, and the barreled action is going to Cryo Pro.
