Ruger Mini 30 problem

This one is making me feel like a dumb-a--. I have fired the gun several times. Just took it out of the safe to install new scope rings and the bolt will not open. I have tried magazine in/magazine out. Safety on/Safety off. I understand the bolt detent plunger on the top of the receiver as it allows the bolt to be locked in the open position. It seems to be free and the plunger spring is holding it in the full up position. What am I missing?

I could be frozen up a bit.

Point the rifle straight up, and give the buttstock a good tap on the floor while pulling back on the slide handle. See if that breaks it loose.

I'm guessing it's a blued mini. Mine does the same thing. Moisture gets into the spooge around the gas piston, and will kinda glue the action shut. Eventually, it will cause some rust in the end of the op rod. It may take a little force to break it loose.

The solution is to clean and oil the gas piston after each outing, or leave the bolt locked back until you can clean it.

The stainless rifles don't have the problem.

Power residue + moisture = spooge

Not these days.

Google it and go to the Urban Dictionary link. You're about to be schooled.:D

Now...back to our regular programming. I have no suggestions at all on the Mini-30 issue...have very little experience with them.
