Attention all! This is a public service announcement. West Memphis Arkansas is in no way related to Memphis Tennessee. Memphians in no way claim any relation to the city across the bridge. Please pass this information on to all of your contacts and inform the media. Geography was clearly not a strong point for our reporting friends.

man, West Memphis Arkansas must be quite the hell hole if you people from Memphis TN are embarressed by it

Don't really remember if I've visited West Memphis Arkansas much. I will say from visiting other places in Arkansas that I think I would much rather be in Memphis Tennessee. Last trip down there was just field, field, hell hole...field, field, hell hole. Maybe there's better things in the state that I have yet to see, but so far I see no need to drive in that general direction ever again.

West Memphis is a Truck stop, with ancillary business surrounding it. They have a small port area, small downtown area. Very poor.

Arkansas is a gigantic field until you get into Central AR, around bald Knob (northeast of Little Rock) and Little Rock. Then you start getting into the pretty parts of Arkansas.

Many people might say that Memphis is a toilet. If Memphis is a toilet, then West Memphis is the septic tank.

I'm from Memphis and there are a whole lot worse places. West Memphis is just about on the top of that list. :)

How people actually live there amazes me.

Lived here my whole life. I actually love my city. I'm one of the few that is of the stay and fight rather than run mentality.

The only reason I didn't come back was getting a job offer the day before graduation from UT. I just stayed here. Don't tell anyone, but I love Memphis too, at least Midtown.

+1 Real men live in (around) Memphis and are proud of it. If you stay out of the crack neighborhoods and go home at a decent hour life is great.

So true. Oh yeah, avoid politics and government as well. It will only infuriate you. Probably the case in all TN cities though.

Well said. A large number of local politicians are on the take and do not support the best interest of citizens. Sad, really.
