They estimate 10,000 pilots are armed or have at least completed the specific courses.

Those guys have good taste. I personally wouldn't use a Bearcat for plane security, but whatever floats his boat...

FFDO. Federal Flight Deck Officer.

I know someone who is one, can't say who it is, but he carries a Glock 36, I believe.

The FFDO program is pretty cool, however, it is voluntary and there's no pay raise for it since it's a government thing and not company to company.

Will a Bearcat really penetrate body armor?

No, and the other pistols won't penetrate modern body armor either...but it was cute..and I'd sure hate to be the guy that got shot with the vest on him..he won't be dead but he danged sure won't be moving fast..that much kinetic energy transferred to that small an area will knock the crap out of him and more than likely break bones.

I think your incorrect on the G36 info. I believe all FFDO's are issued Gov't firearms. None of them have a choice as to what type or can carry their own sidearm. If you do a little research I'm sure its posted on websites. I'd rather not say since it is, "Controlled Information"

I really don't wanna get a job, get through training and get furloughed. I am a CFII and make pretty good money for where I'm at (almost done with M.Ed.) and just building time... Until it comes back...

I don't blame you one bit. The industry blows right now and jobs are really hard to come by. Now that the ATP mins are supposed to be law, and in about 3-5 years when the boomers start falling off the 65 end, things will be looking up and there will be a severe shortage of pilots. Then the ball will be in our (pilots) court and getting better treatment might be a possibility.

Exactly.. I'm coming from a 141 School, and they're talking about getting an exception for ones like us, hopefully (fingers crossed). I'd take a nice corporate job if anybody needs a Citation pilot...

Of course, you could always go Air National Guard. If flying is what your really itching to do with your life. Plus you get to stay in TN

No offense, but I think I'll stick with teaching at this point.

I flew for a regional carrier for several years. I made captain. I was on the CRJ-200. I looked at what I was making and knew I could do better elsewhere and have a better quality of life. I do miss flying the jet though.

I have family at ASA in the CRJ-700 left seat. He loves it. Grant it, he's number 15 on the Senority List and he gets 13-19 days off a month.

+1

FFDOs are issued firearms and other necessary equipment by the Federal Air Marshal Service.

FAMS does issue the Sig Sauers.
