Thanks for those suggestions, I'll take those into consideration.

Feel free to continue with new opinions.

I have 2 XD40's both 4in barrels. The 1st one I bought in 2003, it has been a great gun, I have carried it, used in IDPA and taught lots of people to shoot with it. At the 10,000 round mark it found some odd wear on the barrel. Sent it back to S.A., they replaced the barrel and some other parts, no cost to me, just the shipping to them. Gun is running great.

I like to have the biggest bullet, when and if I need it. The 40 cal is a great caliber with very good ballistics. Not as good as a 45cal, but better than a 9mm, in my mind.

So there are my 2cents worth.

Personally I like the XD-9 sub-compact shoot great right out of the box. I was very impressed. The 40's are more expensive to shoot. At least they used to be. Plus the 40 ammo was not as available as the 9mm. Lets face it, they'll both do the same thing. One more thing, if your going to a 40, why not just go all the way and get a 45. I have a Colt 45 government model series 70 I've had for many years. Love it however, a little harder to conceal. JMO :P

Why do you have a 26 and a 19?

26 is my carry gun.

19 was my first carry gun but I use it for home defense/camping or occasional range use.

I don't see many .45s around here so that is a factor for it. I see quite a bit of 9mm and .40SW.

I see a little bit of 45 but the price is normally up there. 40 only runs about $1 or 2 more than 9mm though. I'm not to crazy about 45 XD's the compact tactical would be cool but I might would be a another 1911 first.

Yeah, I was at Walmart earlier and was comparing the prices with 9mm and .40, and they're not that much difference either...

I'd get 9mm. One less caliber to stock up on. Pistol calibers don't mean crap. The inherent snappier recoil in .40 isn't going to help sight recovery when shooting competitions or in a life or death situation. With modern JHPs, most pistols calibers are pretty moot. Honestly, from a training standpoint, I'd tell you to get another Glock 19. Pistols poke holes, rifles eff stuff up. That .045 of an inch in diameter isn't going to do anything. Shot placement is what counts. It might be a range toy, but one day you or someone you love might have to rely their life on it. Also, your wife/girlfriend would probably have a better time shooting 9mm. YMMV.

I have an XD9 Sub Compact for sale in the classifieds. I got it for my wife, now she wants something smaller. Only top of the line for her and myself, and that's the XD9. Also has the Tritium/Fiber Optic sights. I was looking to trade for the Sig P238 so, that's how it's listed. WTT. Springfield XD9 SC for Sig P238.

400$ will buy a NIB 40cal 440$ will buy the 9mm NIB both with 2 mags (shipped.). So go from those prices on a used one.

There normally the same price to the penny. The 40's are normally a little harder to get though if new.

whatever works best for you.

for me, 9mm all the way.

first is most my handguns are 9mm, and i reload, so 9mm is the obvious choice for that reason.

much more than that though is simply that i dont like shooting 40s. I find it much more uncomfortable than both the 9 and the 45. Most ppl will tell you that is snaps up, instead of pushing back like the 9 and 45. i completely agree. it isnt 'hard' to shoot at all. its just.. annoying. Id rather shoot a 10mm or 44mag than a 40, but thats just me. some ppl like it. whatever floats ur boat. kinda like a glock. some ppl luv em, i cant stand em, such is life.
