Unknown Barrett

So a potential customer calls me. He's got a Barrett. He says it's .283 caliber, do I want to buy it. I go to look through Barrett's catalogue to see what it is and nothing pops up. The closest is their AR clone in 6.8spc, which is what I strongly suspect it is.

Anyone know anything about these? Anyone got an idea what one is worth? Anyone want to buy one?

No...6.8SPC is .277 caliber....which is the same bore diameter as .270 Winchester.

got me on that one. I know they did the AR type in 6.8 called the "468", and a "KKKalifornia" in something like .416 or some such to get around the .50 ban. I've owned one of the old original M82A1 in .50. They have a really big "cool" factor when you unzip them at the range, but not great accuracy. With DUC rounds, I could never get mine under 3 MOA, although my brother reports he can get his model 99 in the 2 MOA neighborhood with handloads.

I have not seen the Barrett, but Omega makes a nice 283 caliber.

I ran into a guy at a gun shop in Smyrna last year, who had a .50 that was marked "Barrett". When it wouldn't shoot right, he contacted the factory, and they had no record of it. Said they didn't make it. So, there may be some fake "Barretts" out there.

Kinda like those Rolox watches.
