Cappy, try shooting the gun from a bench and a rest/support that removes as much of your input from the gun as possible.

Sandbags or a purpose-built rest should do, if you have one.

If it still shoots to the right, your sights may be off. If it does something different, or isn't quite as far off, then it's probably you pulling your shots.

95% of the time the sight issue with a firearm ends up being (as stated above) operator error, that is easily corrected with a little knowledge.

The "chart" above, (in my experience) is Awesome.

Take the above info to the range and and try the fixes for yourself. Chances are you'll correct your problem and learn some valuable skill as well.

Good luck and safe shooting.

my first responce to this post would have read "you are left handed aren't you".

trust me.. its not your gun. everyone always things it is.

just about everybody will shoot to the left (or in your case right since your left handed) at some point. many people do it when shooting their first larger cal, many people do it with a new gun, even if they didnt with other guns, and just about everybody will start doing it randomly from time to time.

Here are my suggestions:

1) lots and lots of dry firing. best practice anyone can have

2) take a good look at how you are holding the gun. its kind of hard to do on your own, if possible, find someone who is an experianced shooter to watch you. most likely you are doing one of two things:

a. squeezing your entire hand when you pull the trigger back

b. pulling the trigger, in your case, to the left as you pull it back. make sure your finger travels straight to the rear of the gun, not off to one side or another, even by the smallest amount. this is often fixed by rearranging the gun in your hand. also make sure your grip is high enough.

--- it would be very helpful if you could find someone to take a pic of ur grip and post it on here---

3) ball and dummy drills. (load ur mag with some live rounds, and some dummys). see if you jerk the gun at all when you hit those dummy rounds. even if the gun is perfectly still when you are dry firing, after a few rounds most ppl slip back again.

4) you mentioned a laser. i find a laser to be a helpful training tool when teaching other people. unless you have someone to watch the laser for you while you are doing ball and dummy drills (to tell you when u jerked), its not helpful. why? b/c you shouldnt be looking at the target... no to #5...

5) look at the front sight. and only the front sight. once the pistol is in your hand correctly, at least for starting off, this should be the only thing on your mind. see it. love it. dream about it. it is ur friend

edit: and if you dont trust me, find an exerianced shooter to shoot your gun.

I have had a million people come up to me at the club i ran @ school and tell me the guns sights were off. I would rapid fire 5 rounds dead center in the target and say 'nope, would you like some help with your shooting technique?'

people never seem to believe me, but its true, 99% of the time its the shooter. If it is the gun, I can tell by looking at the sights right away if they are way off

even my husband, when he just bought his new gun, swore that there must be something wrong with it. he could shoot anything from the 22 to his 44 mag and his stuff ok. with this gun he couldnt hit the broad side of the barn. he swore there was something wrong with it. after i took a few shots to show him otherwise, we took a long look at his grip with the new gun, and sure enough, he was pulling the trigger. we fixed that up, and now as long as he remembers to hold it how he should, he shoots great with it.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice! I didn't think it was the gun but started wondering because i haven't had any other problems with any other firearms but they where smaller rounds I am sure with some practice at the range and some gripping adjustments it will all be better soon. And aqua I almost did the same thing when I first seen it and I had no clue what he was talking about. I think it was just the way he said it made it sound like he was tired of telling people and that it was just crazy that I didn't know! But it wasn't the case at all you have all been very helpful thank you so much.

O nothing special just a Sigma .40

Those things have rough triggers as it is. It'll probably take you a little more practice with a Sigma than most other guns. But many people have said that once they get used to it, all is good.

I was shooting low and to the left and couldn't figure out why until I changed how I held my arms. I found out that I shoot better when I fully extend my arms and sort of pull back against my hand that is gripping the pistol. Changed my shooting completely. Up until then I was kind of holding them bent and closer to my body. Think more weaverish if that's a word. However, that was on my xdm 9. It doesn't seem to make such a difference when I'm shooting my Ruger 22 on how I hold my arms.
