FIRST

Get her pepper spray for the house placed in a STRATEGIC location.

Then

Good Ear plugs

Eye protection and an air rifle/pistol if available.

Next a 22 at things that break (if your range allows) like clay targets

Paper is very boring to newbies and something breaking is KEWL.

If these steps fail, look for a girlfriend that is gun friendly

Might try these?

SUNTZU can give you a "range report" on them...:)

Okay, what's the best kind of pepper spray for the gals... Not really familiar with it since I have a G23

The one in the silver heels talked too much about her mother, but the one in the black hills (black hills should be black heels, can you tell I'm on a gun forum?) is, well, gotta go. :dirty::P

I started mine off with shooting a .22 handgun then move up to a 9mm then to a .40. i tried a .45 but that fun only lasted for one shot.

UPDATE: Tomorrow is the big day.... Gotta go to walmart and get some .22 and .40 so me and the little lady can shoot some tomorrow.....

Let us know how it goes! Here's a piece of advice to and what I did when my g/f (now wife) was apprehensive about shooting. Load one round at a time and just let her do her thing. Make sure she's safe, but let her ENJOY it. Don't worry about marksmanship as long as she's not shooting unsafely. If she's hitting the target and enjoying it, just let her have a blast.

The biggest reason women don't continue to shoot is when we get pushy or overzealous. I think mostly our hearts are in the right place, yours seems to be, but it can turn them off to it if you get pushy or "testy".

.22 is a great starter. Just help her get in a comfortable stance and tell her to just SQUEEEEEZE that trigger. I hope you both have a blast!

And if she has a good sense of humor you can always use this quote from Don Johnson :wall:

Thanks, guys. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes. I'm actually not worried about her marks(wo)manship... I just want to let her realize that it doesn't just go off by itself. She sees me carrying and knows I am, and it doesn't bother her, but she's kinda weary about it. Just a little bit of shooting and some education and she'll be fine... and, hopefully, one day, a pistol packin gf... That 9-1-1 call I made and got put on hold is still making me worry about her.........

Update: Just got woken up with a text from her saying "I feel terrible and slept like 2 minutes last night...". So, I figured it'd be a no go... I text her back saying, "Okay, I'm coming up there and I'm gonna bring you some medicine."

Her reply... "Bring the guns, because we're going shooting today."

:P I think I'm in love....

Thanks. Haven't gotten into anything with a scope yet, but I will sometime in the future, good to know.

This is good to know for any shooting... May want to hold a rifle left handed if right handed / left eye dominant...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I don't see how it's all that relevant for when I'm shooting a handgun as I keep both my eyes open.

I just went through this a few weeks back myself. I highly recommend NOT shooting at things that react if you are dealing with someone scared or that doesn't like guns. They will see the reaction and become more terrified. Shoot at paper. Keep it simple. I started her out on my Ruger Standard. She is somewhat comfortable with it now but six shots of 9mm had her going back to the .22. Work her up at HER pace. Not yours. Be patient. Mine is still afraid of the rifle even though I told her it is easier than the pistol. She will get there but it has to be at her pace. I can't force her or I will turn her off from the sport for good.

Well... I went to pick her up yesterday, early, because we had a busy day ahead of us: Shooting from 11-2, homework 2-5, and dinner with family 5-9...

I got there at about 1045 and found her huddled over the toilet "praying to the commode god" and said, "We're going to the doctor." SO... The shooting from 11-2 was replaced with sitting in an "Urgent" care clinic while listening to her apologize for being sick because she really wanted to go for 3.5 hours....

Next sunday....

That happens to a lot of people, on Sunday morning.

It's usually caused by Saturday night though, not a "bug"...;):P

Ah well... Hopefully she'll get over whatever's ailing her, and y'all will make it to the range nest weekend.
