I looked at the Trijicon 3-9x40 today and liked what I saw. Since what you can lay your hands on to try out is usually limited, What is out there that is similar to the Trijicon but without the lighted retical. Whatever it is, I am looking for something with click adjustments, not the mushy turn dial. As a guide, I have also looked at the Bushnell elite 4200 line (2 different ones, just cant remember models), Leupold Mark AR and VXIII, and the Nikon Monarch and Buckmaster lines. All seem to have good glass to my eyes also.

I dont know much about scopes but a friend recently bought a Vortex Viper. For the price, I thought it seemed an extremely excellent value. Its not illuminated though so if thats what you want, I dont think his model would work for you but its definitely worth checking out.

Where locally can this be found. I do not like to purchase online, prefer to handle first and support my local stores. Illuminated means notthing to me, I just like what the trijicon had otherwise. I have since decided that the buckmaster is out after re comparing to the trijicon. However the others are still in the run unless I find something else to get my hands on.

The Bushnell Elite 4200 and Nikon Monarch both have very clear glass. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
+1. The Bushnell 4200s and the Nikon Monarchs both have great glass for the money. The Bushnell 3200s actually aren't too bad either. Weavers are very clear for the money as well. Their new tactical scopes might be worth looking into. I know my Weaver V16 has extremely good glass for the price.
