He is my Senator and I'll acknowledge that he is a joke, I don't see anything at all funny about him. In fact every time I see him get up my blood pressure goes up!

I had sent Reginald Tate, my senator who originally voted to pass this bill, an email last week asking that he vote to overturn the veto. As of last night I had not heard back from him so I sent him another message telling him how I was counting on his vote. I just watched the voting and see why he did not respond to my messages, he turned his back on us. I am pretty new to all of this so would it be in line for me to send another message telling how I am disappointed in him and that he cannot count on my vote in the future?

One more week isn't gonna kill us to wait. Hell even if the House overrides next week, it'll be when (date)??? before we can actually carry in a restaurant again? Weeks and or a month or more, before the bill will go into effect!

It would've been in effect July 1, 2010, according to the original text. The first amendment to the bill changed that to "shall take effect upon becoming law".

If I were you, I would definitely let him know that because he obviously does not support or represent you, you will not be supporting him. Then get to work to do everything you can, starting now, to help get him out of office. Personally, I intend to contribute to and work to do what I can to see that any of these folks who voted against us are defeated if they are opposed in re-election bids. We just have to keep the passion up until they are all gone.

I guess we can wait another week or so to see the veto overridden - as long as they actually get it done this session.

It is a bit annoying, though. This should have been law a month or two ago if not for all the delays in committee, etc. It should have been law a couple of weeks ago if Bredesen had signed it. Heck, if Bredesen had at least shown some class in the veto this could have been settled by now. Instead, we get stall tactics from the goober-natorial office and something that should have been a done deal has to go right down to the wire.

Heck, for that matter this shouldn't even be an issue as legal carry in restaurants that serve alchohol should still be on the books from last year.

It does make me feel a little better that there is apparently a bill moving through the legislature, now, that would drop the "Oh, no restaurant in TN makes more than 50% of their profits from alcohol sales," nonsense and start charging places that don't meet that requirement more for their licenses. So, if these two bills (the carry bill and the new licensing bill) become law, there will be two direct results of Rayburn's little stunt. I hope he chokes on them.

Of course, a new way of licensing probably opens the way for the carry law to be revised back to allow carry in restaurants but not bars. Personally, I hate clubs and always have (even when I was young enough to fit into that scene) and rarely if ever go to true bars, so that doesn't bother me.

No, don't think so. That was in the original bill, but one of the amendments changed it to "immediately upon passage etc... " I believe.

I Senate overrode the veto by 22 -10. The House will reconvene on June 2nd at 2pm and I hope they override the veto at that time.

So let's assume that the law goes into effect July 1st ( I know that is not what it says but let's assume it anyway), what would they do to you if you got caught carrying before the effective date? You can't be tried for breaking a law that no longer exists. Just a question I have pondered.
