Restaurant carry Vetoed!

Man, you do have my sympathies. As far as your question on the emails, I use MS Outlook, and under "options" it has a box to check if you want a "read receipt." If you check that box, Outlook sends you a message when the email is read, or if it is deleted without being read. If you are using Outlook for your email and want to know more, just let me know.

Only works if:

- the mail system in use on receiving end supports that

- and the user email program is set to support that

(almost all email programs allow mail recipient to disable mail receipts, including Outlook and Outlook Express)

I've found that the receipt feature works no more than about 20% of the time any more. And of course, you won't get one from my end if you email me.

Notice was brought in todays session to take up the veto override in the next Senate session. Looks like that will be Wednesday.

Addn'l comments also indicate that both houses will be returning next week for at least one session to wrabgle budget.

I sent an e-mail to every one of our reps in the state legislature. Got back about 10 replies so far from some of the usual suspects claiming they will support an override on the veto. Also got the below reply as well. Those of you from his district may want to let him know how you feel about this issue.

Thank you for contacting our office. Your input is important to us and we appreciate your comments.

This is indeed an important issue. I will keep this in mind when deciding how to vote on this and please let me know in the future if you have a concern or if I can assist you in any way.

Very Best Regards,

Representative Dale Ford

"We'll get this taken care of quickly in January." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Maybe they have a different definition of "quickly" than we do.

Well, I hope now that the notice has been filed this will come up on Wednesday for a vote and then on to the House. Maybe by the end of the week it will be done.

SB 3012 and its House counterpart: filed for introduction in both chambers Jan. 27, 2010. To achieve passage and a veto override in a single session...that's about as quick as you'll get a legislative solution. A judicial solution would/has taken infinitely longer. And an electoral solution...well, November is an even funnier HAHAHA away...

Yep...I never thought it meant a new law would go into effect in January, just that they would introduce a new bill to fix it.

Both of my legislators are on board to override. Having recently moved to the area I don't know anything about them but they are doing right on this.

Mark, Rest assured I will continue to stand strong for 2nd Amendment rights and will vote to override the Governor's veto.

Jim

Mark,

This same thing happened last year. I will continue to support this bill in the override next week and hopefully we can get it passed.

Thanks,

Pat

Boy, if that doesn't sound like boilerplate text. You could use that to reply to any topic at all, no matter your position. Why bother with actually replying back with a resonably thought out, personal response when you can just have some lackey spew these out one after another. Disgusting!

I liked Ramsey's response:

Dear Andy,

Thank you for contacting me and you can absolutely count on my support! I am a handgun permit holder myself and I carried the "Handgun Carry Permit" legislation in 1997 that created the permit. My staff and I even helped in the creation of SB 3012.

I have already begun the steps to override the veto and it will start today.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Ron Ramsey

The best response yet!

Thank you for your email. Rep. Faulkner will indeed be voting to override the Governor's veto. Thank you for using mine & Ben's story to get your point across. There are many Legislators here who still do not know what happened to me (even though I work here at the Capitol now and walk the same hallways as them). Keep fighting for our rights. I appreciate it.

When this passes (I am going to keep an optimistic outlook), I want to make t-shirts that say:

"Lawsuit against law abiding gun-owners - $5 million dollars

Anti-gun Governor & judge's combined pay - $185,000 dollars.

Liberty prevails in the end - Priceless"

You know, just as a thought, I have to wonder if this whole veto thing was intended to help the Democrats in the Senate and House. Just follow my line of thinking for a minute...

Bredesen has nothing to lose. He can't run for governor, again, and he already lost all credibility with most of us, anyway. Further, the Dems are set to quite possibly take a beating in the elections this year. By vetoing this bill he gives many Senate and House Dems the opportunity to prove they aren't towing the party line set out for them by the more left-leaning factions of their party by voting against a Dem governor in support of expanded gun carry rights - for the second year in a row, in some cases. This could very well help win them some 'credibility' with people who might otherwise be out for Dem blood in the next election - as in, "Well, I'd be all set to vote all those Democrats out of office because of what Obama and his kind are doing but, gosh-darnit, good ol' [insert the name of a Dem senator who votes to override the veto here] showed ol' Bredesen what for and helped get that law passed so he's okay in my book. I think we need to keep folks like him around so he has my vote!"

Of course, there will be those who vote against the override - but maybe that allows them to play to the audience in their part of the state. For instance, Naifeh keeps getting elected so either many of his constituents agree with his anti-gun stance or they just don't care. Maybe this is an issue that won't really impact those who vote against it one way or another but could help those Dems who vote for it.

This is an interesting theory. It is similar to one on the national level where some dems voted against the Health Care Bill. Many think that the votes were counted and when enough had been bought (i.e., Bart Gordon, etc.) others who were in districts where they were in trouble were told they could vote against it to bolster re-election chances. Bart voted against it at first, but when they bought him off, he was able to show his true colors because he is not running for re-election.

One way we can possibly tell is to watch anyone who voted against passage of the bill and then votes for the veto override. Then if they try to talk like they are pro-gun, they can be called on it.

Interesting idea.

But I think it all ties into Bredesen wanting this position: About the Secretary

According to rumors, he wants to head up the Dept. of Health and Human Services. He needed to tow the anti-gun line for Obama to consider him. With his experience in Tenncare, he didn't want to screw up his chances.

Here is my response from Vince dean. I sent him an email Friday night, I got this back Yesterday morning.

Dear Darin,

You really need to work on your bashfullness and just tell me how you

really feel about the veto. J/K I agree with you 100%. Of course, you

know that. Hang in there. We will override his veto and this is his

last year. We will be back next year with a Republican govenor, to

boot.

Thanks,

Vince

Could be. My thought last year when Bredesen vetoed that bill was that he wanted an appointment in the Obama administration. Could be that he is angling the same way, this year. Of course, there is always the possibility that both of us are right and the veto will benefit Bredesen (and his chances of dancing at Obama's party) while the chance to override could benefit some Dems at the state level.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that there are some Dems who truly do support our carry rights. I am neither Democrat nor Republican and have no problem voting for a Democrat (or Republican or Independent, etc.) who I think will do the best job for us. I also think there can be big differences between Dems in the South and their counterparts in the rest of the country. It just almost seems like this is the perfect opportunity for some TN Democrats to exemplify those differences (whether for real or for show.)
