I have been trying to come up with an appropriate descriptive term for the gov. It has been difficult, because of all the possibilites (such as B*stard, POS, SOB and the like, many of which are mentioned in previous posts), I could not think of any group or object I disliked enough to insult by comparing them with the gov. Best I can come up with: He is the scum that scum scrapes off the bottom of their shoes. Appropriate apologies extended to scum, however.

Be careful if you get around any dirtbags. They may try to hurt you for comparing them to the governor.

Well, folks, look on the bright side. Soon his tenure will just be another piece of rubbish on the ash heap of history. Small children will never read about Phil's great accomplishments in their textbooks. Gore, Serpas, Naifeh, Bredesen...their glory days of oppressing Tennesseans are in the past. See ya, fellas. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

We got a state and a country to rebuild.

I think we really need to work on expressing ourselves better ... or at least better name calling. :D I feel like I'm back in middle school.:) Bredesen's mommas so fat .........

Just kidding guys. He's shown his colors. I don't think anything i could describe him would do justice to the character he revealed behind the facade.

I can't get excited about any bill's passage or failure. The next term for any office can overturn whatever you hold dear. 10-round-max mag bans came and went and could come again before 2016.

I would say Mr. Bredesen does not anticipate any further politics in TN for a variety of factors....the Democratic Party is having a rough time in the South and West especially...and the best he could do would maybe run as a Senator...and that would be a tough run considering the political climate right now...his best chances are an appointment under Obama.

This veto is about Bredesen being a smart politician...it is more than a veto against 'guns in bars'. The guy good chance has a pistol license in New York where he can legally carry in bars. He is probably going for a high up position under the President....the former Ariz Governor pulled these same stunts before she was appointed to Homeland Security. Bredesen has nothing to lose by his NRA rating being 'downgraded' in TN but something to gain with Obama.

He is not. A douche bag serves a useful purpose. Bredesen sure doesn't.

Touché.

This is a post on TFA Blog from the executive director, John Harris:

It will take, unless the rules are suspended, probably 2 hearings in each house. Senate, if it moves quickly, can do its override by next Wed. House would get it as soon as the Senate passes it and would take again 2 session days to pass it.

There should be time.

However, we can improve our chances of a swift override if we can convince both houses to "suspend" the rules that require the 2 hearing process in each house so that the matter could be taken up and an override vote had on the first day in each house. We need to get the word out - particularly to the sponsors - to all House and Senate members asking them to suspend the rules and to override the veto on the 1st hearing in each house.

This is the email I have sent to my senator and representative (both of whom supported the bill originally):

I am writing to ask you to do everything you can to speed the process to override the Governor’s veto of SB3012. Specifically, I would ask you to support a suspension of the rules and allow the vote to override the veto on the first hearing, rather than having two hearings.

I thank you for your previous support for this bill and the stand you have taken for protection of law-abiding citizens in the past. I know we can count on your continued support, just as you can count on ours.

Thank you and God Bless!

Please get this word to your senator and representative and let's show the gov just how impotent he is!

Smart liberal politician. I hate his ideals but I can admire his political intelligence...

Might look back and think of the "good old Bredesen days" after Haslam's first few. I think he'll prove to be an uber RINO.

Then again the whole party should be renamed to RINO-GOP.

Yep, he will be old news come January, not soon enough for me. Also we don't have to see Serpass's face anymore. I always imagined him with a ventriliquist dummy mouth with Bredesen or Dean's hand up his rear making him say what they want him to. So now we need to educate our hunter/sportsman friends about gun control advocate Haslam so we can elect either Ramsey or Wamp in November and forget the big Bredesen mistake.

what the dumbass is forgetting is nothing is changing. it has been and it is still illegal to drink while carrying your firearm.

what really pisses me off is drinking and driving. they are not doing anything to stop the hundreds of people that kills every year. i can almost be 100% sure that there are 10 times the people who drive drunk vs the amount of permit holders who drink and carry. what one is more deadly?

Only in a restaurant/bar.

Then, it's not illegal to HAVE consumed, wherever, unless you are deemed to be "under the influence", which is up to any given LEO.

Of course, this second circumstance has not changed.

Governor Bredesen has ignored the Will of the citizens of Tennessee yet again. His veto of the Restaurant carry bill speaks volumes about his disregard for our Constitution and our Second Amendment Rights. This man was elected and swore under oath to uphold our Constitution. With an overwhelming vote in both the Senate and House, our fine Legislators spoke for their Constituents by their vote supporting the Restaurant Carry Bill. This bill was re-done to fix the unconstitutionality that Chancellor Bonnyman ruled on last year. The Chancellor found that right to carry permit holders would not be able to properly discern if they could legally carry their firearm in establishments that serve alcohol because they could not tell by definition in the bill, whether it was truly a Restaurant or a bar. This year our Legislators re-drafted a bill that opens up lawful carry by permit holders to ANY establishment that serves alcohol. This was the only way to make sure this law would not be brought back in a lawsuit again for vagueness. I want to make it very clear that business owners can still post a sign saying "no guns allowed". I support a business owners right to choice in posting. I will however say this....those signs will do absolutely NOTHING to stop a criminal/bad guy from coming into your establishment and robbing you or killing you. It is better to have law abiding citizens present who are trained and permitted that can stop a bad guy before they kill someone. I have a firsthand account of what can happen when a law abiding citizen is disarmed. My husband was murdered in front of me by a man that had been stalking me in an establishment that serves alcohol. I myself being a law abiding citizen, left my permitted gun locked in my car the night my husband was murdered. The law did NOT stop my stalker. The law DID stop me, from having the chance to save my precious husband Ben. These laws that restrict lawful carrying of a gun for self defense creates a playground for criminals. I have said this many times and I will say it again....If guns cause crime, then my gun is defective. A gun cannot pull it's own trigger. When seconds count, the Police ARE minutes away. I know, I have been there. Nobody can take care of you like you can. I find it disturbing that our Governor vetoed this very important bill using the excuse that Guns and Alcohol don't mix. Did you read the bill Governor? The bill clearly states that you CANNOT drink while in possession of that firearm. Why should he care about individuals carrying firearms legally to protect themselves? Oh wait, that's right....He has a whole team to protect him! When I was attending the "A Season To Remember" event at the TN Capitol (this is where the families of homicide victims come and hang their loved ones pictures on the wreaths at the Capitol) where he had a female TN State Trooper sitting right next to me and actually walked with me while I walked past the Governor to hang Ben's picture on the wreath. Funny how his life is worth more than ours and one little lady in Nashville TN can make him that nervous. I wouldn't touch a hair on his head. I can't wait for our Legislators to override his poor decision again. Let's roll!

Were the other family members escorted by a state trooper (uniform or plainclothes?) at this ceremony or were you the only one escorted past Mr. Bredesen? I am just curious if this is standard procedure. If it is not procedure, that is extremely strange. I am guessing he has a plainclothes state trooper close by where he is when in public.

Anyone from middle Tn here? Got complaints about the Gov?

WHY??

When Bredesen was mayor of Nashville, ya got to see how he does business.

Did ya expect him to change his tactics/ambitions when he got to the Govenor's mansion?

He will soon be a memory. I hope our next Govenor will better embrace our basic Rights.

******

Next week the Senate and the House will override the veto.

Guns and alcohol DO NOT MIX! Gun oil tastes nasty! Use a swizzle stick.

Called both of my elected officials to know how I feel. Hopefully this will be overturned next week.

HA! I just got an email from Bredesen - it was a 100% copy/paste from the letter he included with is Veto and I am sure most everyone here got the same "response". What a joker. "Basic safeguards to public safety" blah blah blah. Seriously Phil - you really think you can pee on my feet and tell me its rain?

I thought it rather fitting that he vetoed it from Communist China...........

Except, unless I am mistaken, it was around 3 in the morning in China when the veto came through. Therefore, I'd almost bet that Bredesen wrote and signed everything before he even left with instructions for it not to be delivered until the last minute - meaning the veto has been sitting 'on his desk' since last week. Jerkwad.
