Have you decided not to buy a 380 because of the ammo shortage?

I've actually bought 2 .380s recently. A Ruger LCP and a Bersa Thunder. Love them both. Just have to more deliberate when practicing. When I want to shoot a lot, I'll shoot the 9mm or the .22lr

Decided not to buy a .380 because of .38spcl, 9mm, .40s&w, .45ACP, 10mm, .44mag and last but not least .22lr. Just don't see a need for a .380 anymore. I always knew ammo would return. It's everywhere now. Still don't want one.

I just ordered a Kahr .380 should be here in a few days. I don't care about the ammo availibility becasue it's not somehting I shoot often. I have 380's so I can carry no matter what I'm wearing.

If you want a pistol for the range or plinking the 380 is not something you want. If you want something you can hide no matter what you wear... then you probably won't find anything smaller or easier to hide.. unless you go with a smaller caliber.

I go through maybe 200 rounds per year of .380 so the cost doesn't bother me. If it went up to $50 a box I would still buy it....

I have been able to find .380 FMJ as well as JHP any time I needed it. It may not be at the local stores or under $20 a box but it was available..

what shortage... we have TONS of it in stock!!!!! Right now have more 380 then anything else in the store, id say i have more 380 then everything else combined in the store... but it is going fast!!!!!

The last .380 I had was more than 20 years ago. It was tough to find ammo for it even then.

I'll probably buy another one some day, IF I think ammo will be easier to find than it once was. But if it's not, I won't bother. I haven't looked for any lately, so I have no idea whether it will be or not.

It's too bad too... I rather like the caliber, in the right gun.

You and everyone else accept walmart. I guess people think since walmart doesn't have it or it's not $13 a box of 50.. there's a shortage. I have always been able to find .380 ammo.

Well, everyone except Walmart, Dick's, Gander Mountain, Bass Pro - wow, okay, maybe everyone doesn't have it. At least not in this area (the Knoxville area) - though maybe your part of the state is different. I was in Chattanooga a couple of weeks ago and Sportsman's Warehouse and Academy were also all out of .380 of any kind. Last week, the guy at the gun counter at Dicks told me that they have received, maybe, ten cases of .380 ammo in the last twenty months. I've seen some in a few of the smaller LGS in my area but it is usually steel cased stuff (which I do not want to fire in my P3AT.) Also, when I do find some all I am seeing is FMJ - I have seen exactly zero .380 JHP anywhere I have looked. Even when someone in one of the forums to which I belong posts that so and so has some for order online it is always 'out of stock' by the time I check.

I do think that some stores in this are are getting in small amounts of .380 ammo but I'm hearing that it is disappearing from the shelf just about as soon as it goes out.

I'm buying the missus a Bersa Thunder 380CC. She shot her fathers Bersa and loved it. I have a bunch of Blazer that I bought when it was like $4 or $5 a box. I must have 2 50cal cans full of it . I have a Femaru M37 I used to shoot a lot.

The last I got was from midsouth shooters supply. Right now they have federal hydra shok in stock as well as american eagle both at pretty good prices..

but the good Hollowpoints are few and far between for .380........

Figure out how many thousand rounds of fmj brass cased Remington you need and i'll make the drive to Goodlettsvile worth your while.

an update on the Kahr p380. 70 rounds FMJ flawless.. Shoots and handles much better then the DB380 or any other 380 I have shot.

If you want to mail order .380 you can find it. In the Chattanooga I have seen no .380 on the shelf this year. I've even checked on differnt trips through Knoxville and seen zero. If a local gun shop has any many of them are reserving it for customers who buy .380 pistols.

I was at Sportsmans warehouse in Chattanooga today and the guy working the gun counter told me about all the ammo coming in and he sayd there are getting 20boxes of .380 5oo round bulk pack. Price unknown. They have a lot of every caliber there. I would say they have 1 million rounds of 9mm it's insane.

I held out on getting a Sig P238 because of the shortage and price of ammo.

I can stand paying 15-17 bucks per 50 for ammo, but there's just no way I'm gonna pay twice that just to be able to shoot.

Looks like the price has come down a few bucks since the scare, but it's still not readily available.

Maybe in another year or two 380 will get to where it needs to be and I'll be able to finally buy that P238

It hasn't kept me from buying one, but it did encourage me to sell one. Like the other guys said, you can certainly find .380 out there, but you'll have to pay dearly for it. I had bought a Bersa .380 about 3 years ago for my wife to carry when you could get .380 at Wal-Mart for less than 9mm. I have since sold it and bought another Glock 9mm for here to carry instead. We shoot quite a bit, so I wanted to have a dual-purpose range pistol and carry pistol that I could find ammunition for and not go broke doing it.

I was thinking hard about buying a Ruger LCP the other day buy when I tried to find the ammo for it i decided against buying one. They wanted $30.00 a box of 50 FMJ ammo in my town and they only had 3 boxes and said it would be a few months before they got anymore in.

This thread (and remarks about the growing availability of .380 ammo) made me decide to stop into Gander Mountain at Turkey Creek on the way home last Friday evening. I almost didn't - not wanting to be disappointed, yet again - but decided to take the chance.

Lo and behold, on top of their ammo shelf behind the counter (they keep the handgun ammo back there, now) was a big, ol' stack of my preferred .380 carry ammo - Federal 90 grain Hydrashoks. My inner hoarder wanted to buy several boxes but my more sensible side saw the $24.~ price tag (for twenty rounds) so I only bought one box. I don't blast through the 'premium' stuff just shooting targets so that box should do, for now. I don't know how the supplies fared over the weekend, though.

We stopped at the Academy in Hixson on the way to visit my grandfather on Lookout Mountain. I wanted to pick up a few boxes of their Monarch 9X18 ammo and I hoped they would also have some .380 of some type. Well, I got the 9X18 ammo but there wasn't any .380 there, at all. Even their Monarch store brand was sold out.

Heh, I like the Remington FMJ stuff. Too bad I've already just about drained my gun and ammo fund for the month. Still, if supplies of brass-cased .380 don't improve in the next month or so, I may have to come and see you. My wife and I like eating at the Gerst Haus in Nashville and its been about a year since we've been there. I think I could probably pull a, "Honey, let's take a drive up toward Nashville, maybe eat at the Gerst Haus. Oh, and since we will be there, anyway, let's run on over to Goodletsville so I can pick up some .380 ammo."

I finally got tire of searching for 380, and decided just to buy the reloading dies and reload it myself. It is a lot cheaper per round than what they are charging in the stores and online (provided you don't count the purchase of the reloader . . ). I can now let the wife shot her pistol as much as she wants or can stand.
