Hiding your CCW in the car?

Has anyone mounted a holster up inside the "lid or cover" of the armrest in a SUV? I have a H2 and its a large center console and arm rest. I think if I velcro or rivit a soft holster to the underside of the armrest, that could be a great hiding place for my CCW.

Any other thoughts out there?

I have an SUV too.... I use a good lock type case (... like a pelican, one with reinforced tabs for padlock locking...) appropriate to the size of the pistol, take a loop type (...one with swaged eyes on each end, about 2 ft long...) stainless choker (... short ones can be found at Harbor Freight, Northern supply, etc...), a good non pickable padlock (...buy from your local locksmith, not the home depot...), and lock the lock ring on the case and the two eyes of the choker together, after wrapping the choker around something sturdy; like the seat frame of the second seat. Then throw your old jacket over the whole thing, or push it up under the second seat. I know this description sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. It is really easy to do, and virtually foolproof. You cant break into the pelican case and the case is tied down to a 6000 lb vehicle.

Great suggestion! I also want to be able to access it quickly too. This would be my vehicle weapon as a back up or in place of my personal carry weapon. Double insurance.....

For about a decade I've had a Palmer Security Products push-button (no batteries) pistol safe bolted down in the bedroom, that looks a whole lot like this V-Line safe. Palmer seems absent on the web nowadays. Mine says Palmer Security, but think the name when I ordered was Cannon Safe, but could be mistaken.

V-Line Top Draw

It is very thick steel, fast to open, and can be (mechanically) programmed to require up to 3 multi-button presses to open. It is too thick steel to quickly hacksaw. Someone who knows permutation theory could trial-and-error open it given maybe a half hour of free time to try every possible combination. But most thieves are probably math-challenged.

The bedroom pistol safe is big enough for 2 or 3 pistols. The one I got is about an inch taller than that V-Line above, and slightly larger on other dimensions.

I keep 1 or 2 small pistols, a couple of knives too sharp to leave laying around, and a little cash in mine.

It is probably too big for a car, but they make a smaller one with the same battery-free lock. That 5 button lock is super-reliable. I've opened it at least once a day for 10 years and it shows no sign of wearing out.

I keep meaning to get one that size and bolt it down to the floor in the van, right beside the drivers seat. It is quick to open. Only situation it would be too slow, is if a carjacker came up real quick stopped at a city stoplight and stuck a gun in the window. But if you can see something coming, it takes less than a second to get into the box. No keys. No fiddly combination wheels. No batteries.

[edit] For auto mounting, maybe the V-Line DeskMate or Hideaway would be better. Could probably be mounted vertically if need be. Maybe would be a smoother fit in a car. Same pushbutton lock.

This is on my short list to buy for my Jeep.

The tabs go under the seat frame mounts and it has a keyed lock.

This will be great for me during all the those stops at school for coaching, and other events.

I will buy one soon, but the dishwasher, my wifes phone that was left out in the rain and my iphone are ahead of it.

Tuffyproducts.com. The one above is specific for a 07-10 Jeep Wrangler. They have all sorts of stuff, saw a tactical box for an F150 with extended cab, looks like you could put 3 or 4 rifles in it.

I like the "Tuffy" stuff too. We need one of the "under the back seat" drawers for my son's Wrangler. Tuffy is good stuff.

Pics on last page are a deal I rigged up for my van, it is for driving only and makes for very quick access, the gun goes with me or is left in a lock box inside the locked console in the locked van if I must leave it behind. I also throw a small towel over the holster when I leave the van to not "spark" any extra attention for any "window shoppers";)

At first I thought the mag holder was going to fall off but after several months it has not. As mentioned in the pic it is all a cheap holster, velcro super glue concoction:)

Eventually I am going to get one of those boxes with a cable and route it under the console and secure it to the seat frame to add some more security when stored.
