If you are riding an infernal homemade, souped-up contraption by this old codger's house you'd better be packing an equalizer...

It reads like the contraption was a Whizzer.

Those kind of bikers are HOLY TERRORS going 25mph!

Police say a St. Charles man went out of his way to knock over the driver of a moving motorized bicycle - by hitting him with a shovel.

The man's attorney, however, claims it was the driver who struck his client as he tried to get the "homemade, souped-up" vehicle to slow down.

It all happened about 4:30 p.m. Sunday as a 44-year-old man rode a "motorized pedal cycle" east on the 600 block of State Street, according to police.

when I was a kid there was a guy on the street who had a lawnmower engine on a bicycle. Goofy looking for sure but no peddling involved.

I've owned three Whizzers many many years ago. I rode them prior to getting a real drivers license. I can't remember anyone swinging a shovel at me. The new ones are little improved over the originals although they're made off shore. Top end is still only about 35 mph.

I once stopped a kid on a crotch rocket who was repeatedly roaring by my house (suburbs, 25 mph speed limit, kids playing) by meeting him in the street with a shovel. He got the point.
