What is the proper way to return a firearm to the manufacturer for warranty service? Do you have to ship through an FFL?

No, since THEY are an FFL.

Individuals can send handguns and long guns to FFL.

Can't send handgun through USPS, though as an individual.

Will they not send you a UPS or FedEx shipping label so you can just box it up and drop it off?

No, you do not have to ship it through an FFL. You will have to ship through UPS or Fedex. If it is a handgun it has to be shipped overnight and they will not accept it at the UPS or Fedex stores. You have to take it directly to the terminal. If you are shipping it for warranty work call the manufacturer's customer service department and have them send you a prepaid shipping label. Overnight shipping is expensive. After the work is performed the manufacturer can return it directly to you.

If warranty work then you should be able to get a RMA from the company you are sending it to, RMA will not cost you. I have had best luck with FEDEX, hub center. Put a copy of sender and receiving address and problem inside with firearm. Always insure and track.

Make sure they (receiver) knows it is incoming.

If not warranty work then call and make sure the receiver knows it is coming and problem with it. Send the same way.

I have good luck with SA and Glock, not so much with others.
