Getting rid of sparrows?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a nice little family of sparrows that have taken up residence in the eave of my house. They have quite a nest built up. I've tried everything humane I can think of. I even placed another screen on the outside of the eave to keep them from coming back in, but the crafty little boogers managed to make a hole in it somehow and get back in. I don't want to hurt them, I just want them gone before they break through the inside screen and end up in my attic. Any ideas?

I ran out of ideas when you said you didn't want to hurt them. Just kidding, set up a bountiful food source right next your neighbor's porch. Hopefully they'll set up shop there.

RELEASE THE KRAKEN! Sorry, someone had to say it.

There's other sparrow families set up at my neighbors' houses on either side. These things are everywhere!

DESTROY THE EGGS! Harvest them for tasty breakfasts! Cut off the future generation and watch the population plummet before they nest you out of house and home!

You're too soft hearted....Think of them as BGs, they are. Birdshot if you can or sling shot if you can't comes to mind.

The little b*stards are too fast for my (lack of) skill and a slingshot.

Tried a fake owl? That worked (for a while) for some barn swallows we had.

I'm not sure where I'd put a fake owl that wouldn't look just completely tacky. I know, I know - I'm picky. But the tactics have to keep momma happy, and I don't think she's gonna go for a fake owl. :-\

Owl = tacky

Sparrows = ok? :wall:

Might try some Bird-X repellent.

Could also tie a balloon near the opening or one of those wire thingies.

English sparrows and Starlings are two nasty birds that carry mites. No other bird will nest near or will nest where a Sparrow has been. Myself, I get my old scoped pellet rifle out in the Spring, get a cold glass of tea and cross hair as many as I can. In the late fall, I clean the pellet rifle and wait in anticipation for the next hunting season. These are neusense birds with only two purposes, and that is to multiply faster than rabbits and sheet all over every thing that you own :poop:, JMHO.

The sparrows are rarely seen. The owl would be mounted right out in the open and look tacky. I don't think that putting it one the attic would have much effect.

I might just have to break down and get an air rifle to take care of the problem...

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Put a rubber snake on the nest.

I'll definitely have to give that one a try. Next time I'm at the store, I'll check the toy section out and pick one up.

I've removed their nesting materials time & time again, but they just come back.
