Anyone shooting a Ruger Alaskan 454 2.5" barrel? I'm thinking of getting one and would like to hear from anyone who has or had one, and there experience and opinions of it. I am not recoil sensitive and realize it is not an all day range gun. (just want to get rid of some squirrels in my yard):D

Thanks

John

You do know the difference between a bear and a squirrel, don't you? :stalk:

If not, then I don't even wanna know what size the squirrels must be, around your place...:D

A friend of mine used to bring his .454 Alaskan to the range with his handloads. He would give the the gun to me so I could "show" those assembled how a double action revolver was supposed to be shot in double action. I loved shooting a cylinder or two through that thing as fast as I could trying to hit the steel plates. It was comparatively slow getting those followup shots but not as slow as I originally thought it was going to be. Seemed to me some pretty costly fun. Nice gun for an experienced reloader I suppose. I'm sure there is a use for it other than letting knuckleheads like me blow off ammo at a range. Around here I'm not quite sure what that practical use would be.

I like shooting .45LC in mine. I keep fullhouse 454's in it when it's in home defense mode though. By the way the barrel length is actually 2.75" not 2.5"

Yeah those squirells will be little puffs of fur with a 454. Here's a good revolver site where you can find lots of threads on Alaskans. Btw, you gotta hit those "squirells" dead on in the nose or you won't stop them.
