I am not sure this is the proper place to mention this or not, so move it if necessary. Maybe one of our reps from the outpost armory can help me with this... I noticed they are an authorized vendor. A couple of weeks ago I happened to be driving (for work) to Nashville. I decided to take my lunch break on the way back and stopped at the Outpost Armory. Nice store, but upon walking in I noticed an unnerving sight. There is a sign that says that we must empty our guns, and lock the slide back if we want to bring it in. Why, being a place that is supposed to be pro 2A, would you post something like that? Just a question... and a request to Take It Down.

I'm not familiar with the store you're referring to, but I've seen many gun shops with a sign like this for people bringing in guns that they plan to handle (need service, want to trade, etc.). Couldn't imagine that they wouldn't want you packin'. Hopefully they'll chime in and clarify.

I don't mind signs that say to unload them if we plan to handle them, I can understand that, but the idea of having to unload them period, that bothers me. It may be that that was the intention, but unless I read it wrong, it said something like "all guns must be unloaded with the slide locked back" There was a little more wording, but it surprised me being that they are a vendor here on TGO.

I am sure they will chime in soon enough, but I have visited on many occasions and have glanced at the sign. I do believe it refers only to guns you are having looked at, or wanting to trade, or fit for a holster etc. I do believe that either later in the sign or another sign that it says something to the effect that all carry weapons must remain holstered. 100% sure that holstered carry weapons are A OK in this establishment.

The sign applies if you are bringing in a firearm that you will have out (such as trying out a holster, having them look at for a trade, bringing it in for repair, etc...).

They have no problem with you having your loaded carry gun in the store, as long as it remains holstered.

thanks, Glad to have that cleared up. As I said, I understand that. Maybe I read the sign wrong. I just don't remember it saying anything about having one looked at. Good to know. thanks

Havent been there in a while, but I think it says all guns must be unloaded, or in a holster. Could be wrong though, like I said, haven't been there in a while.

Not sure about Outpost but I have friends that work at other gun stores that tell frightening stories about customers coming in trying to show them something about their gun and in the process pointing a gun that may or may not be loaded right at the workers and/or customers. They get tired of worrying that they gun just might be loaded. Many customers they deal with cause them to wonder if the customer even knows if the gun is loaded or not.

The sign has nothing to do with the Second Amendment -- It's all about safety. Unfortunately, the occasional moron visits gun shops, too.

As long as you keep your firearm holstered, I'm sure you'll be more than welcome to shop while loaded.

I gotta say if I ran a gun store and a potential customer pulled out a firearm they wanted me to look at for some reason and then pointed it at anybody, that potential would be gone.

If I remember correctly it says to empty out and lock slide UNLESS it's in a holster. Lots of folks bring in guns to sell or trade and forget to empty them and it's a safety hazard.

On Target shooting range has basically the same sign. All firearms must be unloaded OR holstered. I don't know them personally but I would find it really crazy to think that the Outpost would not allow CCW.

I believe there was a misunderstanding with the sign. I would hate for anyone to think The Outpost wasn't pro 2A. The sign reads exactly as follows: ALL FIREARMS MUST HAVE THEIR ACTION OPEN AND LOCKED OR BE IN A CASE OR HOLSTER BEFORE ENTERING THE BUILDING! Not all gun owners are properly educated on firearm safety, so I am glad to know that all firearms physically in hand are not loaded, whether it be they are bringing their own firearm in to potentially sell/trade or they are handling a new one to potentially buy. Firearms loaded in their case or holster are not an issue at all. The Outpost Armory completely honors carry permits!

it does, I don't mind that. I just didn't want to go shopping and have to leave it. Fortunately, I was in a work vehicle and didn't have it with me so I still went in and looked around.

I agree with having a customer check their firearms before bringing it in unless it is a self defense gun that is holstered. I have seen it more than a few times where an "UNLOADED" firearm ejects a live round when it is checked by a shop.
