Just a question about handguns.

Ok, I am 19 now and when i was in sixth grade my grand father left me his guns. Of course my parents did not let me actually have them until i turned 18. Any way to my question. I know its legal for me to own a hand gun, i just can not buy one. However i was wondering if i can sell my hand gun to a gun store that of course has their FFL. I was just wondering because i am looking to sell one of the handguns he left me, but i did not want to walk in the store trying to sell it to them and they say they can not because i am not 21 one yet.

Unless you are just desperate for money, I wouldn't sell it to a gun store. You won't get very much for your gun. I'd keep it or sell it FTF. IIRC you can sell a gun FTF as long as you aren't the buyer. The stipulation is on the buyer not the seller.

You can buy handguns at 18 from private sellers (IIRC). The only thing your age prevents is buying a handgun from a dealer. By and large you'll get more money if you sell it to a private buyer and not a dealer.

I wouldn't sell an inherited gun. You can never get something like that back.

Just my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. My Grandfather meant so much to me that I couldn't bear to part with anything he left just to me.

I suspect that you would deeply regret selling the gun, maybe not now, but certainly later.

Just MHO.

You can legally buy and sell as you like as long as it’s a private party sale.

State law is 18. 21 is federal law and applies to dealers. I don’t know if an FFL would buy from you or not; but I would try a private party sale.

There is a new law that says you have to be 120 years old to sell an firearm handed down from a grandfather. Lucky for you I heard of it and stopped you in time.

Seriously, every one that I have ever talked to that sold guns (especially those handed down from other generations) regretted it.

I certainly wouldn't sell an inherited firearm. The level at which I'm looking at customizing my 1911 almost makes me want to turn it into a family heirloom with engraving down the slide recording the passing down through the generations. I don't even have any kids or so much as a fiancee.

Exception here.

Single only child geezer, no kids, so no relatives to leave them to.

Sold couple of granddad's old shotties, turned the money into a contemporary gun I can use.
