TN Tea Party Coalition

Looking at their website, there is going to be a convention on May 22 & 23 (Sat/Sun) at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Among the door prizes, it says "firearms." That to me is reason enough to go  Also, there is going to be a meet and greet with Ramsey, Haslam and others. Seminars for 10th amendment, fair tax, and others. I'm going.....

Be sure and ask Haslam about the Bloomberg Coaliton he was part of, and exactly why he left it eventually.

A Tea Party gathering will have to be quite the masquerade for Billy Boy.

Haslam? Wamp? Tea Party?

Hahahahahahahaha.... bwahahahaha....

Stop it! You're hurting me!

One is a democrat in all but name, shares Bloombergs goals for gun control (count on hearing what a mistake it was, and how he quit MAIG as soon as he decided to run for governor - err found out what the initials stood for).

Wamp is okay, except for that minor little annoying habit of voting for every boondoggle, bailout, corporate welfare, or vote buying bill that comes down the pike. Nice guy,but I wouldn't hand him a checkbook - I'd be broke before I knew what happened... hey, wait, we did, and we are.

Only way either would get an endorsement from conservatives is if somebody spikes the tea with hallucinogenics.

It's politics. They're all trying to jump on the tea party bandwagon. And during the Q&A part, I'm sure there will be "John Kerry" responses. ("I was for it before I was against it") :puke::popcorn:

The Tea Party does not and should not equal Republicans. Those same ****ers are why we are in the mess we are in now. As for Haslam and Wamp, I completely agree with Mark. There is no reason for those guys to show up other than to be humiliated....is there going to be a dunking booth at the convention for which they've volunteered?

Apologies from SE TN for Wamp. Bless his pointy little head.

Haven't been following the governor race. Am ignorant of candidates from other parts of the state.

Purty sure that Wamp ain't quite up to the job. Not a bad guy. Just not governor material. Presumably he was smart enough to find the cafeteria and restrooms on Capitol Hill.

Do any of the wannabe guvnors have a lick of sense?

Thanks

The way it works in with the money and strings in America anymore, by the time one has a chance to win, he is unfit to hold the office.

Most any front runner is smart -- about winning an office.

But few show much wisdom after they get there.

I'm leaning towards Ramsey, but don't know enough about him beyond pro-2A history...is he any more or less a narcissistic nutball than any other pol? FWIW, I've picked him because even though all the candidates are decently conservative, Wamp and Haslam have issues (DC connections, MAIG, respectively) that give Ramsey the edge.

It's pretty much a single-issue level of support, based on 2A history, and doesn't run deep. One of these three is going to be the next governor, so I want to support the right guy. Am I wrong, dudes?

I have known Ramsey from back when he first started his business. but I have been away for the past 30 years and just moved back last Jan. But he was a straight shooter back then. So I will vote for him and hold my breath and see .

I was listening to Phil Valentine on my way home from work the other day, and he recounted a negative experience with Wamp he'd had...he then described his personal favorite in the race without naming names, and it sounds like he's a Ramsey guy. He managed to slip in negatives about Wamp and Haslam that wouldn't have been noted if you didn't have prior knowledge about the histories of each.

Unfortunately, without naming names, his influence is not worth much to the uninformed. He and his early-morning counterpart Ralph Bristol aren't saying much of anything about the race just yet. Are the talk radio jocks pushing candidates, either obviously or quietly, in other cities (I'm in middle TN)?

I'm really curious, because we're getting a republican governor in November, based on reading the tea leaves (no pun intended). This primary WILL decide who is the gov. in 2011.

Ramsey, Haslam, or Wamp on one side vs. McWherter on the other...

Well. Here is my thoughts:

Ramsey - political insider - too much time in the Legislative Branch - and it shows. Can't clearly talk. And giving "Wershintah" the "Boot" right now when FEMA is pouring aid into the state? Well, poor timing on an advertisement. Unintentionally makes him look out of touch.

Wamp - Sigh. RINO? Whiny voiced, and real lack of true ideas. Not enough support outside of South East TN to be a contender...

Haslam - Um. Well. Considering how little he pays his employees... Aside from this, I have too little info, to make a decision on him, BUT he does show his ANTI-2nd A. stripes. So I think, "No go" for him.

McWherter - here I see a Son of a Governor using the name to get elected. Total lack of info on him, as I have just started to look. He does have the advantage of running against the Republican victor, instead of having a contested primary. Vandy Law Grad, which is a negative to me... Anti- Income Tax - duh. anyone for that would not get elected. Not one mention of 2nd A on his website. Hmm, not good. Remember: Mike does not necessarily equal Ned.

Is there any other candidate? Please?

AS for the Tea Party organizers, I humbly ask you guys actually invite all candidates to address the group, and back the candidate who espouses the core beliefs the Tea Party stands for, no matter the "other" party. To do less makes the Tea Party no more than a lap dog of the GOP.

I DO like the idea of a firearm door prize... What is it? Might just have to go. Need to go up there anyway.

The first question put to McWherter at his appearance at the West TN TFA meeting was "Do you support gun registration?"

His answer was "Yes, how else can you track guns for crime?"

He told us his new pistol was registered.

When asked about the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act, he told us the BATF had already declared it Unconstitutional.

Asked if he would sign a new Carry in Restaurant Carry Bill, he said he would have to see the specifics, which is fair, but his second comment was that he did not support carry in "bars".

He supported the Obama Health Care Bill prior to it's passage.

He also said he was sure Wal-Mart did not allow HCP carry.

Favored Local Opt-Out for Parks Carry.

Ick. I was hoping silence meant "quiet support," as the Lib Dems would go after him for supporting... LOL, Oh well.

I will reiterate, any OTHER candidates? Please?

So did anyone go to the rally? How did it go?

Not much choice as usual

It's The American Way.

By the time a candidate is in a position to win, he's no longer fit to serve.

Lets ask DR.Winfield Dunn to help us make a choice or draft him again .

How's Winfield? I liked him, but I imagine he's way happier

in retirement.

Well...

Since we don't know yet how the SCOTUS will decide on the Chicago case, I'm still concerned about the 2nd amendment first and foremost. Regardless, I still think the anti-gun folks will never rest and will try for 'reasonable' restrictions which will keep the courts busy for years.

Having said all that, all these gubernatorial candidates have major problems of one sort or another that make them less than ideal candidates. That being the case, I am leaning towards voting for Ramsey solely for 2nd amendment reasons (boot and all).
