Donating appliances?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey all. Does anyone know where I can donate good appliances to? I just replaced my stove and fridge, and I'd like to donate my old ones. Problem is, I can't figure out which organizations accept appliances. The Salvation Army doesn't, and I don't believe Goodwill takes them either. Any suggestions?

Both units work, so if there are any TGO members that need an electric stove or a fridge, say the word.

Do you have a local Habitat for Humanity? They take them. And sometimes if they have a store nearby they will even come get them.

Habitat for Humanaty x howevermany. We donated a washer last year. You get to deduct some on your taxes next year as well.

How about soneone in Nashville due to the flooding??

That would be ideal, and I'd like to do just that. I'd love to give it to a charity that could give it to a flood victim. Problem is, I don't know how I personally would orchestrate giving it to a flood victim. Short of a craigslist ad, I don't know how to make folks aware of it, and if your home has been flooded, what are the odds you're on your computer browsing craigslist?

If y'all know anyone that can use them, say the word.

Call a church in an area that was flooded. There is a good chance that a member there will be in need of the fridge.

Or anything else for that matter... I went with Hands on Nashville to volunteer, and the guy's house had 4 feet of standing water in it with no insurance. The sheetrock and drywall would crumble in your hands and you could take your thumb, with little pressure, and push COMPLETELY through the wall. I'm sure someone around here could use it, if you were close.

One option is to list in in the giveaway section on Craigslist

I wouldn't want to give it to someone on Craigslist because they would probably just scrap it rather than it going to someone in need of it. Unless you delivered it directly to a family in need that saw it there and called or emailed.

I'm with you there. I generally tend to avoid Craigslist now. There is just so much fraud running rampant that I don't even want to fool with it.
