FEMA Inspectors

For those of you who have had flood damage, I just wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect when the FEMA inspector comes by (mine just left).

You need to have several documents available:

Gov-issued Photo ID

Proof of Occupancy (voter registration card, utility bill, etc)

Proof of Ownership (loan documents, etc).

The inspection process takes about 30-45 minutes (depending on the extent of your damage). The inspector will ask you to direct him to your damage and he will make notes on some sort of tablet PC and in some instances will take pictures of the damages.

When he was all done he told me to expect to be contacted within 7-10 business days with information on what comes next.

I was very pleasantly suprised at how quickly they came out (filled out my application on Wed. night, they were out here this afternoon). Have any sort of bills for cleanup (I had to rent a sump pump) available for him to note as well as policy numbers and companies for whatever insurance you have (whether it's flood insurance or not).

Maybe they learned their lessons after Katrina?

Hoping the rest of you are clean and dry...and also hoping my application for aid is successful because if it isn't...I'm probably going to have to take a foreclosure/condemnation because I can't fix this on my own (I hate being a broke college student).

If you have any specific questions please just reply here and I'll do my best to answer them.

And what do you do if your voter registration card, bills, and loan documents washed away in the flood?

Well, I would assume that your mortgage company and the title company would have copies of your mortgage documents. Most bills can be accessed online and printed off nowadays (and if your computer is gone too, the library has free web access). I'm sure they'll work with you on gaining access to the required documents. They're just trying to cut down on potential fraud I'm sure.
