Is there any way to remove an engraving from glass?

I purchased a cigar humidor 2nd. According to the description, these humidors have cosmetic defects like scratches and dings. Well, mine does not have any scratches or dings, instead, it has on the glass engraved, "Eric Frantz, We are proud and honored to welcome you as a citizen of the United States of America 2009". I doubt there is any way to remove the engraving but if there is, I figured you guys would know! The humidor is still pretty and I obviously got a good deal on it but I was hoping for a scratch or ding.

Can you replace the glass, Or maybe get some etching stuff and make a design.

Replacing the glass is probably the best option. It would require removing the wood around the glass (could present sealing issues). Also, it might negate the cost savings I have in it buying a 2nd. May not be worth it.

Depending on the depth of the engraving, you may be able to polish it out

Try some light sanding and see if you start getting any decent results. If not the only other options I know of would be replacing the glass, or etching over the area kinda like scribbling out something you've written in ink on paper.

If all else fails, a rock is very adept at removing engraving in glass... and the glass entirely.

If it was etched by sandblasting it I would do the same to cover it. Maybe use tape to make a frame around what you want to remove then media blast it. I would think it would look better.

If it was actually engraved I am not sure if you can remove enough through sanding and polishing to make it look decent.

I would just leave it. It would make a good conversation piece. Hell, you could tell some story like the CIA brought you to America in recognition for your service and you had to change your name from Eric Frantz to Slappy to protect your family's identity :D

Either sandblast or get some of the acid etching cream they sell at craft shops and frost the whole panel. They also sell design panels but it sounds like you have to much to cover.

I like this idea the best.

I think I will take the easy way out and change my name to Eric Frantz.

No, then you'd have to deal with the DMV when trying to get a new license. Not worth it... :P
