Personalizing Handguns

JPS

Recommended Posts

At several recent gun shows I've seen cool little Rear Cover Plates for Glocks, and I've debated about getting one for my G26.

Am I being paranoid thinking that personalizing a firearm would be just one more thing to try and explain if you were involved in a self-defense shooting? (I would think that something like Punisher or Batman bling would be especially problematic.)

What do you guys think?

I've wondered the same thing. I'm not saying this is true, but I'm sure there would be people that would take personalization of a piece as a sign of misplaced attachment to a deadly weapon and other such bologne.

Personally, legal issues aside, I wouldn't use a piece of art like some of the guns I've seen on here and other sites as my EDC anyway. Too much risk of damage or confiscation of the piece.

I think you should be good to go, as long as you also wear a t-shirt with puppies on it.

Seriously, though, I'm guessing the police won't care. But it's best to assume that an opposing lawyer is going to try to use whatever he can to make it look like you were looking for trouble.

Mr. JPS, isn't it true that you have a human skull etched into your evil black semi-automatic assault pistol?

I'm a member of the Punisher Fan Club. That's all it means!!

I wouldn't let it stop me ... but that's just me. Your call.

I doubt something as simple as those back plates would get you in any trouble. I'm sure there's always a chance it could be used against you, but then again there's always a chance that just about anything you own could be used against you in court. Like others have said before, I wouldn't carry some of the personalized firearms that I've seen around, with extensive engraving and things like that, but for the item you mentioned I wouldn't have a problem with it. Especially cosidering it's cost as compared to other costs for things that alot of people do to their firearms. Heck I would be much more worried about losing the Lasermax in my Glock than I would be a back plate like that.
