I have no words. Actually, that's not quite true, but the words I have I won't post on the intrawebz for all to see... :P

i wish it was unbelievable, sadly it is not.

I thought California was in the United States? Maybe it is not anymore and these kids along with myself did not get the memo.

Why is a child being sent home over a shirt not ok but a woman getting jail time over a shirt is ok?

They both involve the Gov and both should fall under free speech, no?

Well at least the School Superintendent did not back the actions of the obviously racist assistant principle, I wonder will he keep his job and I would bet there will be even more American Red White and Blue clothing worn there in the future.

It would have been different if the District had backed the school, but they didnt. I hope the racist fool gets fired or at least suspended for such a stupid move.

Back in my days of HS he would have took a butt whooping principle or not.

The school board not backing this decision was nice.

No!

One is in a courtroom and one is in a school. I would rather compare the American flag to something other than her version of free speech. If those schools want to ban all Tee shirts, fine, but the American flag is a bit silly

to single out. What that girl was wearing was outright offensive. and she probably had the attitude to go along with it.

You know, if it was really about sensitivity towards the mexicans, it really doesn't matter. If those mexicans are living in America they should be Americans, or aspire to be Americans. Sometimes sensitivity is a bit overrated, and that asst principal was playing

his brand of politics with our kids. Wrong!

More from the Left coast.

Strick, did you read her T-shirt? Her (..), her rules. The judges courtroom, the judges rules.

This has nothing to do with a Hispanic principal sending students home because they wore American flag shirts on a Mexican holiday. One is civil behaviour, the other is misplaced anti-patriotism or excessive pc concern over the bruised sensitivities of students of a different nationality. Which same nationality demographic, I might remind you, has hoisted their home country's flag in place of our own on public properties, has stated the goal of reconquering the southwest, and openly espouse "all for the race (la raza), nothing for others ".

you don't see the difference between this? The girl was wearing a shirt that most would find offensive in any setting. Certainly the judge saw it that way too, especially in her courtroom. High schoolers trying to be patriotic and getting sent home solely because it is Mexican independence day is ridiculous. No one should ever be singled out for expressing that they are proud of the U.S.. Not in this country.

Except its NOT Mexican Independence day. Cinco de Mayo celebrates a victory over the French. If everyone celebrated a victory over the French we'd all have cirrhosis.

Nope, I see the differences.

I also see that both shirts caused someone to be offended.

This is America. People should not be getting jailed, nor kicked out of school over something covered under the First Amendment.

There is no exclusion for the word *****

shows how much Mexican history I know. All it is anyway is an excuse for people to go get drunk. Sort of like a hispanic St Patty's Day.

Strick I see the difference, her shirt would have offended me. If someone is offended by US flag apparel I would not support them.

USA love it or leave it.

I can definately see your point, even though I don't really agree with comparing the American flag to what was on that girl's shirt. The fact was mentioned in that thread that there are dress codes in court rooms which is what caused the girl to get jailed. Those that hide behind our Constitution in order to break rules such as this are exactly what's wrong with this country. If this school had a dress code as well that doesn't allow for the students to support their country, then I could partially agree with them being sent home. If there was no school dress code, then saying that they can't wear a flag to support this country on the same day that another country celebrates a certain holiday is rediculous.

Make sure Pelosi, Waters, Waxman, and a few others are home when it happens.

I don't consider the flag to be vulgar. Nor do I consider the display of same to be a free speech issue.

Further, if anyone finds an American flag in an American school to be offensive, I suggest they are the problem. The border is south. Hop to it.

I'm no expert, but I would be willing to bet good money on that if more people in this country had this way of thinking we wouldn't have half the problems we have today. :tinfoil: like this just seems to keep coming up in this country, and it makes me want to cry to see what our country. It makes me especially sad for those that are fighting for such a country.
