Chicago girl jailed over shirt worn in court.

Concerning whether or not she was given the opportunity to leave, we're only hearing the girl's side.

Given the fact she had no business being there at all, and was in the front row wearing something she already admitted was inappropriate, I think it's a safe bet she got an attitude when the judge questioned her, and that's what got her smacked, as much as anything.

J.

Exactly. Skanko called the judge a homophobe, so it's reasonable to believe that some personalities got displayed somehow. Let's see if she files the suit.

skankolicious :P

Some people don't know how to behave in public. She may have taken the heat off some scrawny guy in lockup, though.

I stole that from an earlier post, but felt it was safe to use after I saw the picture ;)

The order didn't say she refused to leave.

Granted, she could have and the judge just didn't write that part down.

Anyone may be in attendance to an open court.

Reasons need not apply.

I hate to think what she's gonna try to use to pay for that. :P

I'll bet it still don't allow her to make the rules though... ;)

If she called the judge a homophobe, that should do it. She could be one of those "in your face" kind of people and didn't know when to shut up.

Reasons need not apply, but one is still required to dress appropriately. And she's already admitted that she knew she wasn't. Where she really screwed up was trying to justify it by the fact she wasn't the defendant. She was still right in front of the judge, after all.

BTW, have any of you ever tried to get out of a speeding ticket by claiming that yes, you were speeding, but not by as much as the officer said you were?

If so, how'd that work out for ya? :P

She did that in the media, but how would the judge know that by looking at her shirt? The shirt is tacky, but it ain't gay, where BOTH have the ***** :P

Seen it a thousand times. Never works out quite as planned. :P

Did anybody notice the charge the judge jailed her for? "Direct criminal contempt"...

I have to wonder if there's a "simple contempt" there, which would only entail a fine, and that the girl escalated the charge to criminal contempt by her behavior.

I'm thinking along the lines of "Simple Trespass" vs. "Criminal Trespass" here...

Exactly. "I'm only a little bit of a criminal" never gets a person off the hook.

Gotta love those media filters. The following is not a story...

Skank wears obscene T-shirt to court and sits on the front row

Judge calls skank down for it

Skank cops an attitude

Judge throws Skank's flabby butt in jail.

Speaking of that... she claims she was at the gym before she took her friend to court...

Do any of you think she looks like she's ever exercised in her life? ;)

Then again, she just said she was at the gym... she never mentioned that she was there to work out.. er... exercise.

Trollin'? Maybe both locations?

If said skank mouthed-off to the judge then that's a different story, IMHO.

In the media's eyes, if skank mouthed off to the judge, then it's not a story.

She's not going to admit that to the press, or may not even be smart enough to know it if she did.

Something else to keep in mind; you do not have to actually say anything to show attitude.

Again, no laws regarding dress or offending a judge.

Never received a speeding ticket

I did get one for parking in a handicap spot once ( I use a chair).

There's a thread on it here somewhere...

I had an expired placard. Seems the person that issued it to me wrote an "09" on the expression date when it should have been an "07".

went to court and was accused by the meter maid of altering the date.

Went through one hell of a tongue lashing over this!

Had to explain to the judge that getting a new placard only take a couple minutes and only cost 5 dollars. No paperwork required from a doctor for renewals.

Told her it would take just as long and cost nearly as much for me to go buy a sharpie and alter the date as it would just to get a new placard.

She didn't buy a word of it ;)

After that, she asked to see my new placard. Told her it was hanging on my mirror where it belonged.

She demanded I retrieve it.

I said that I was at a court house, across the street from the police station and jail. There were many, many cops and metermaids wondering around the parking lot...and she want's me to park illegally? And then I asked if I get another ticket if I could go ahead it bring it back in with me to save some time :P

She finally dropped the ticket but not before giving me another tongue lashing.

All of this because I, someone that uses a chair, gor a ticket for parking in a handicap spot

My bet... she works for the TSA now. She's perfectly qualified :P

Seriously though, misconduct in the courtroom will generally buy you as much or more trouble than anything you could possibly do outside of it.

J.

+1; I've seen this happen many times. I'm never surprised at some of the things people will do or say in the courtroom.

Apparently there is, and the charge is: Direct criminal contempt.

'Til we're too tired to lift our arms. ( Or type, as the case may be. ) ;)

But you should know that already...
