Reprieve for Franklin Gun Shop?

There was a thread some time back about Franklin gun -complaint about store hours, etc. I had business in Franklin recently and decided to drop by. Thought I'd share.

First of all, leave the wallet home. There are over 3,000 guns on display. I was tempted by everything from a Taurus Judge (they didnt have the stainless in the short barrel, so I escaped) to a nice M1 Garand.

The store is a converted Uncle Bud's restaurant, so it is large and looks a little like a barn inside and out. They seem to focus on the higher end, with lots of fine (ie expensive) guns on display. The Hasslers (owners) treated me well, were courteous and knowledgeable. The store was busy (Tuesday around noon) and well-stocked with all the usual accessories. Prices seemed ok -I thought I saw a good deal or two, but also a couple of items priced higher than what I expected.

Cool find: very old silver "palm pistol." Designed to fit in the palm of the hand and be "squeezed" to fire. A gambler's BUG I was told. 3 grand.

Deal: My Kimber was $20.00 less than what I paid and was in stock.

Warning: Closed Mondays.

Just thought I'd share a positive experience.

Sounds pretty good, but in their policies it states:

Out-of-state residents may purchase a handgun, but cannot take possession of the gun until it has been transferred to a Federal firearms licensed dealer in your state who will comply with the laws and regulations of your state in acquisition of the firearm. We will need an original, signed copy of the FFL license and street mailing address of the dealer it is to be shipped to.

You can FAX that info these days.

Not to split hairs, but isn't an original copy something of a paradox?

Len...whats a Summer county boy doing running around in Franklin :-)

They've always seemed to be fair to me when I go in. They are a bit higher on some stuff...but not gouging high in my opinion. I've picked up several pieces there

The Hasslers are good people. Brian is the main guy with his dad, Jerry and brother mike. I have bought a lot of guns from them. Brian is fun to deal with. He is a tough negociater. As long as you know your prices, good deals can be had.

It is a good place to spend your lunch hour looking at all the guns and watching all the deals being made.

I went by there today. They will be closed form this coming up Sunday until after the new year

If I told 'ya, I'd have to kill 'ya! :D

Seriously, just visiting a friend and checking out the model train show at The Factory. (Nerd alert: Yeah, I love model trains almost as much as I love firearms.)

Len, you need to come to Cowan sometime between April and October. The Railroad museum here has two model set you might be interested in seeing. One was build in the 70's by local retired railroad workers and the other was made in Switzerland and donated by one of the local doctors.

Ah Len, I share that love. Every so often I go visit my mom and stepdad in Johnson City and get to run some of my trains on his club's 30'x60' HO layout. It's spectacular, great scenery, 3 main lines, all wireless, DCC, etc.. At some point when I get an extra room available I'm building a layout in it.

Reef, when I get a bit more landscaping done here at chaos central, I'm putting in a G scale layout. Is 'putting in' the correct term for an outdoor track?

Interesting how many of us are into trains. I'm mostly into "O" scale, but have no room (or time) to put in a layout.

I do have an old wind-up Marx train for sale, if I can figure a price.

I'm glad to see some model train aficionados here!

When I was a kid, I was pure HO scale, due to price more than anything. As I got a little older, I converted to O and have been there ever since. No room for a layout, but I have some of my nicer stuff on display in a couple of rooms in the house.

My dream house will have two "extra" rooms. One for a train layout, and one for firearms display/storage. I'd like one whole wall in each room to have built in storage/display cases. The train room would have a layout int he center, with space on all four sides for access. The gun room would have my safe, display cabinets, storage, and a nice work area for cleaning, home 'smithing, etc.

Oh yeah, and a "media room."

A boy can dream, especially around Christmas.

Those can be quite nice -and can fetch a good price, depending on condition. I saw a bunch on ebay not too long ago, might want to check there to see what the going rate is.

I grew up with a father who was (and still is) continually developing a several hundred sq ft HO scale layout. What me and my sister as children called "the train room". So I have always had a love for model trains. I see myself living in this apartment for quite a while longer and I'm thinking about perhaps doing an N scale layout to conserve space.
