I got out last night for a few minutes to see if Old Harding Road and Hwy 100 were open yet. I drove through Rolling River and down Morton Mill - just to see how Old Harding looked like by the river. I had no idea that part of Rolling River flooded. Morton Mill was an absolute mess; an entire neighborhood was flooded. I was absolutely astonished. :confused: I literally had no idea things were that bad in those areas. I never imagined Morton Mill flooding like that and I've lived in Bellevue for 16 years.

What absolutely infuriated me was driving by some idiot washing his truck (and his son washing his bicycle) when 100 yards down the road people were ripping out drywall and putting all of their furniture in the front yard. I guess having a clean car is more important to some people.

I'm glad to know that for every truck-washing moron, there was someone like strelcevina helping others out when they needed them.

Wife and I were rudely awakened by noise from the garage Sunday morning about 7:30 to find the fridge floating in 3 feet of water and the house surrounded by 4-5 feet. Dressed quickly, grabbed the dog and cat and went out the back door, wading around the garage to get to a place to climb up the hill beside us. Couldn't get past the corner because of swift water and had to wait for the neighbors who had been trying to get to us out. They could only hold on to our hands while waiting for the Fire Dept. to get there. Then a 24 ft. ladder was placed on the bank by the FD and we climbed up it.

So we got out ok, but lost the cat in the water. Molly, the Austrialian Shepherd is great. She thought the water was playtime.

Anyway, God really blessed us. We got out. The house has some floor damage. The heat pump is fried and the duct work will need replacing. The garage, my work shop and wifes craft room were pretty well totalled. Unfortunately, the gun safe wasn't safe. Two feet of water in it and it sat for 2days before we could get back in. I'm getting a lot of help from a wonderful brother-in-law whos is cleaning all the pistols and rifles for me while I try to salvage what I can from the rest. Looks like a couple of stocks will need refinishing and some long hours detailing the rest. But we weren't hurt, and we have a home still; unlike others around us.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, just relating a story. My heartfelt thanks to neighbors and Metro Fire Dept. for all their help.

little update.

since Monday morning ,we are working non stop.

people are just incredible. there is so much activity around neighborhood. everybody is working.

people are constantly bringing water and food.

and much more.

this is what make Nashville such a great place.

just little elbow grease and little help and everything can be done.

anyway sadly my caddy that i had for 10years is no more.

but my house is almost clean enough

I also live in Bellevue off of Poplar Creek. Half of our subdivision was under water. We got real lucky as the water stopped in our neighbors yard. It was in our neighbors yard across the street and our neighbor beside us. Here is a view looking down my street. The mailboxes you see are about 6' high. The water came up about another foot and half after this pic was taken.

Last Sunday a bunch of us went house to house through the water helping where we could. We moved a lot of furniture and even carried a lot of our elderly neighbors through the water to dry ground.

The devastation in Bellevue is pretty hard to comprehend unless you drive through the area and see it first hand.

The people of Nashville have shown their true colors. It has been amazing the amount of people that have shown up to help. Truck loads of people just drive up and say put us work. Others drive through handing out sack lunches or water. It has been great to see the way everybody has responded.

Adversity truly brings communities together. This is the way things are supposed to work. One of your neighbors is in trouble and you help them out.

I feel fortunate to been in Knoxville. My thoughts and prayers go out to all that were affected by this.

This did however open my wife's eyes to the need of preparation, and has as such modified her standard answer of 'No!' whenever I suggested stockpiling food and supplies.

sadly there is nothing we can do until Fema says we can rebuild.

Im glad you and your family are ok. Your obviously one heck of a good person even if we dont see eye to eye on politics I would be proud for you to be my neighbor.
