It was surprising to see this and shortly thereafter heard it on the radio. Understandibly an absense of media coverage. This in essense Gibsy... puts the foot of the Gulf Coast people squarely on the Fed's throat!

We were there from day one my ass. There will be more to follow on this!

Despite plan, not a single fire boom on hand on Gulf Coast at time of oil spill | al.com

So, the Obama administration was ruining the country as far back as 1994? There's some serious armchair quarterbacking going on.

:tough: Yeh That would be blame it on Bush in reverse.

I think if the required 3 booms were on scene in the Gulf and the oil was being contained and burned off that this administration would be up there taking credit.

Bush made some big mistakes, but I don't hold a lot against him for Katrina. His FEMA director was a putz. It's tough to wrap your brain around the Katrina recovery without being on the ground in the area. Logistics were virtually impossible because of the destruction to the infrastructure (water, electricity, roads, and telephone).

What gets me is that this administration didn't even follow the 1994 plan that was in place! Instead what does he do.. ummm send some lawyers down from the Dept of Interior and Justice (along with DOI Swat Teams), Uh!, "Since when did the DOI have Swat Teams?".. Sounds like to me instead of meeting the problem head on, on day one.. it took them 8 days on how to figure up on getting lawyered up, find evidence of wrong doing, so that they can attack the big oil company!

And, did they attack the big oil company? Maybe those lawyers were there for a different reason, like reeling in a multi-juristictional mess.

DSCC capitalizes on oil spill - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee emailed to ask supporters today to sign a petition to "stand with President Obama to hold BP accountable."

Petitioning the White House to keep doing what it's doing is a bit of an odd stance, but the world of political email is always a bit detached from reality, and petitions are a great way both of harvesting email addresses and of bringing supporters smoothly onto the contribution page, which is where a petition signature takes you.

Says the email:

[H]ere's a perfect example of why we must keep fighting:

Last week's deadly oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico has unleashed an oil spill that threatens livelihoods, pristine beaches, and wildlife along America's coast. The spill could eclipse the damage done by the 1989 Exxon-Valdez disaster.

The Obama administration has vowed to
"keep a boot on the throat"
of BP to ensure the corporation is held accountable for the spill. But Republican Leader Rush Limbaugh has a different plan. He said there's no need to clean up the spill because "the ocean will take care of this on its own," and that oil is "natural. It's as natural as the ocean water is."

Sign our petition. Stand with President Obama to hold BP accountable for this disastrous spill. Rush Limbaugh is entirely wrong: This oil will not clean itself up. Corporations must be held accountable for their actions....

What attack Froggy? The petition is stupid, but that's what you can expect out of the senate. We're going to hold them responsible? That's not an attack. I guess boot on the throat would be if it's a real boot and a real throat.

What I've heard out of the administration from listening to them directly, is they want the spill stopped, the mess cleaned up, and for BP to pay for it (and they'll even help). They're not trying to take BP down.
