AK 47 922r compliance question

If the 10 round mag is U.S. made that would be 3 of the U.S. required parts. If you put a Commie mag in it, now you would have 3 additional foreign parts. Number of rounds in the mag does not matter to 922r, only where it is made.

Yea, I know...., sort of dumb.

My understanding is you can't change a thing on a post pan gun without being required to follow the 922r regs.

Put a tapco T6 stock & remove the 10 rnd fixed for a 30 rnd mag on a SKS and it better be 922r compliant.

I could be wrong, won't be the first time.

Guys, it COMES with a 10 round (I assume, Russian) mag.

You're saying that putting a different 10 round mag on it (foreign or US made) is "adding" and now 922r is in play? Or only "adding" a higher cap mag?

I'm not talking about changing the config to accept standard AK mags, only the mags that fit the existing imported sporter config.

I was mainly interested in the .223 version imported by RAA.

or what? what is going to happen?

I do not believe for a minute if I put a Tapco stock on one of my Yugo's that all the sudden I am off to jail.

That worksheet posted early has an SKS checklist.

A Tapco T6 has a pistol grip and could be construed as no longer being a sporting rifle. Add a 30 rnd mag and its even more deviation from a sporting rifle.

Probably not off to jail, probably never get checked but if it is a violation you could be subjected to whatever penalty is associated with 922r violations.

Thats how I interpretate the reg. Like I said i could be wrong.

As an individual owner, I believe there are none specified. There were some back during the AWB, but those are gone.

As far as my question re magazines, it looks like imported "sporting" configs are okay as long as they stay in "sporting" config, which includes mags of 10 rounds or less. So seems I could buy as many 10 round mags as I like, made in any country, without being in 922r violation. Not that I should much worry in any case, seems.

Isn't it just this simple?...Count your parts on the worksheet to comply...or your choice to ignore. At the very least it's good to know what's legal and what's not. It helps to know what you're walking out of the gun shop with anyway.

True. When do you need to start counting your parts? When you change the stock, when you change the mags, ?????????

It's 10 or fewer foreign parts that's your goal. Don't let it get to you.

In your count there are foriegn parts you just wouldn't change like reciever, barrel, trunion, bolt, bolt carrier, and piston. Add 3 parts for foreign mag and you have 9.

So in your NHM 91... US stock set with Tapco FTG.... foreign mags ok.
