Ok so i know that Mosins are C&R but i had heard that the SKS fell under that category also. Also i went to a local gun shop and bought a Mosin with out having to have a C&R a few weeks ago. What exactly is the point of having the license then?

The point of the C&R is that you DON'T have to buy from a local FFL and that you can buy online and have it shipped directly to you without paying a FFL to transfer it to you. Therefore you can buy them at about $69.99 or $79.99 rather at $120+ at your local shop. Sometimes you can purchase at a local gunshop at a reducted price if you give them a copy of your C&R because they won't have to run a TICS.

Yep, they pretty much answered it. I'd add that many companies that don't even sell guns (Brownells, Midway, etc.) will give you a discount as well if you have a C&R FFL.

AND you can purchase OTHER firearms other than Mosins and SKS. Though, I am unsure there would be many SKS that fall under the C&R rules. However, other military surplus collectibles, such as Mausers, Enfields, Garands, and Springfields, for example, would fall under the C&R rules. (SEE: ATF Online - Publications - Firearms - Curios or Relics List AND http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-11/atf-p-5300-11.pdf )

Effectively, most firearms 50 years old and older that are not regulated under the National Firearms Act may be eligible for C&R purchase.

NOTE: Several ammunition sellers will also give discounts to C&R holders...

I am thinking I will get one soon...
