flooding for dummies...

If you are driving down the interstate and you see a car floating in 4 feet of water: Turn. The. Heck. Around...

Your car doesn't float any better then theirs did...

Watching the TDOT cameras on I-24. Best reality TV ever.

For the life of me I don't understand why THP didn't close the interstate.

I-24 at Bell Road (few miles East of Nashville).

Maybe a little hard to see, but that's several cars under water on the Interstate.

I was watching live on channel 5 when a building came floating down and took out some cars and a boat on a trailer. TDOT should get an Emmy for their excellent camera work.

I watched this whole thing unfold live. There was an open lane that cars were driving on then within 5 minutes they were floating.

I was watching that on 2. It was a portable classroom from one of the schools that washed onto I24, and then washed down 24 into some trucks, and then the water destroyed it. They're re-showing it every now and then, but that particular camera has now been taken down I guess because the water finally got so high there.

Yeah, I tried watching on the TDOT site, but there's no feed.

Last feed I saw from that particular spot showed some rescue people, and it was unclear if they were trying to get someone back across that they had rescued or what, but the water had pretty much consumed I24 at that point over the concrete walls. They didn't put that location back up after that, and mentioned it had been taken down.

Someone died due to the flooding at this location.

I just came from that area. It took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to get from Bell Road @ I-24 to West Nashville I-40 @ Whitebridge. There were cars hood deep on Bell Road. A Semi was hood deep on Una Antioch @ Hickory Hollow Rd/Mt View Rd. This stuff was crazy.

End of the world stuff here. Flooding, plagues, volcanoes, earthquakes... dogs and cats, living together in perfect harmony... mass hysteria!

Totally ridiculous. Once they found out that someone died the news caster said it 5 times in about 3 minutes. They just couldn't wait until someone finally dies.

It's sad that this is what they always in a way seem to be hoping for in these situations. The way channel 5 first announced it kinda bothered me as well. Can't remember the exact quote, but it was something like "Breaking news, we have word that someone has died in the flooding, and also the Jimmy Buffet concert will go on tonight". I understand that people like Jimmy Buffet, but I don't think that kinda announcement should be made in the same breaking news cast as someone losing their life. I also saw earlier footage of someone that was clinging on to a telephone pole and was eventually swept away before rescue workers could get to the area, and as of when I left earlier they still hadn't found him. I'll be praying for everyone in these situations, as this flooding will be going on for quite a while, not to mention all the cleanup and rebuilding once the waters go down.

For all the complaining I do about living on the side of a hill, I am dang glad I am sitting high tonight.

Stay safe boys and girls.
