Memphis area flooding.

Recommended Posts

Out here in leipers fork we've seen 14 inches of rain. Severe flash flooding, 1 confirmed fatality which was a close family friend. Roads literally washed away as well as cars completely submerged on the roads.

Our little town turned into an island for several hours. Septic stopped working as well as water. Left many people stranded as their cars floated out of their parking spots.

Tomorrow should prove to be fun as the waters have just recently receded from the roads in most places.

With another squall line coming out of TX for later in the night or tomorrow.

Like I said this is the most rain I have seen since I've lived here with Aug being 18 years.

We now have numerous sinkholes around here and not much has receded as far as roads being passable.

This tornado stuff is playing He!! on my wifes nerves, not real comforting to me or the kids either.

I am way more than ready to return to the lightening capitol of the world and worry about Hurricanes instead of this mess.

Nat'l wheather service just said 1-3 more inches of rain for us in the next few hours.

We are getting some from the south of what is coming thru Memphis, which we will also probably get:rolleyes:

This is crazy. My Sister inlaw went to Jackson, TN. yesterday and has told us some horror stories from up there today.

YES SIR it is quite nasty and at present still coming down, people are still being trapped in their cars and having to be recused. Numerous sinkholes

Also at present we have a propane tank that has floated away from where it was told to stay and it is leaking !!!!

ALSO TORNADO JUST SIGHTED NEAR REELFOOT LAKE MOVING NORTH EAST AT ABOUT 60 MPH.

What all can you pick up with that app in Shelby County?

See CA answered that, but yea I listen to it at work sometimes to see what we might have coming to us.

Where at? We had a LOT of flooding on the north end of town. Old Brownsville Rd from Eagles Nest to Old Germantown Rd were underwater for a while.

Rennslaer by Bartlett Elementary. In that subdivision. It's County though.

My Sister inlaw posted this video on her Facebook page. I am not sure who recorded it.

Steam Mill Ferry Road Bridge Collapse

just saw this video on the Weather Channel

I am thankful that weather did not come to Knoxville. We basically got no rain until about 8 pm last night

I never ventured over there, but one of our guys lives back there and I didn't hear anything bad from him. Billy Maher Rd got messed up pretty bad. I never even tried to go north of Daybreak on Billy Maher, but from what I heard the other officers saying, Billy Maher north of Fiske is gonna be shut down for a while. There was a massive tree across the roadway as well as a lot of missing asphalt. :-\

What is it about Jackson? It's like a severe weather magnet! I had some business to tend to in Jackson after the tornado that came through around 2004 or 2005 (?) and was just beside myself with the damage I saw.

I really feel for the folks up around Jackson. Y'all keep hangin' in there.

I ended up talking to a friend of a friend last night who lives over there and she said the same so that makes me feel a little better. I've lived here all my life and I've NEVER seen crap like this.

My little girl's birthday is May 5 (this coming Wednesday), and we alway have here birthday party on the First Saturday in May at Aycock park in Millington, TN. About a month ago I tried to reserve the pavilion for this past Saturday and it was already rented out, so we had to make other plans. (Pump it up this coming Saturday night)

Well my cousin snapped this picture yesterday. It is picture of the funereal home that is sitting in front of the park. You can see the open space behind the building that is part of the park.

Just one of the many reasons I want to move away from here, High Violent crime and horrible schools are way up on the list also.

04-05?....Heck pick your year, the really bad one that got downtown was 03 but we seem to have at least one per year or more that causes damage and loss of life.

It was 08 that the Dorm building at union was leveled with 144 kids inside...I still can not believe they all survived!!! ....that one also passed within a few hundred yards of my house and got another house. Scary stuff it is.

But at the same time there are lots of times the nasty stuff goes above and below and we sit in the middle pretty much untouched????? In fact there is some nasty stuff passing now to the south heading for the Lawerenceburg area. Also some stuff out in western AR that is not yet visible on Memphis radar....I have no idea what it will bring... or not

The vid posted is just a few blocks from my friends house and is a route I sometimes take to get there. Right now we still have many sinkholes and roads that are not passable due to water. Listening to the scanner the officers are having to ask what routes to take to get to calls.

I took a two week class at the Police station in Jackson last year. I didn't realize it before then, but Jackson is just a little Memphis. Sad, really.

Ok, it was 2003. I entered downtown from the south headin' towards the bypass. It was unreal.

That was us yesterday morning. As soon as someone got a call, they had to ask what route they could take to get there. Not to mention you could rarely make it to one scene without finding another scene or two along the way.

No surprise. 15 or more years ago some of my family in Jackson was calling it "Little Miami." At the time the line they repeated over and over was it had higher gang activity per capita than Memphis.

WTB: tornado shelter. Looking at getting a prefab unit put in underground in the backyard. There's a company in Jackson that could deliver and install one here for about $3000. We were going to drive over there today to check them out but decided not to because of the, uh, threat of tornados. Flooding's not too bad in my nabe. Tornados, though, are something we're getting real concerned about.

Do you really want to be in an underground shelter if the water is rising in your yard and threatening to cover it?

Most of the prefab underground shelters I've seen are waterproof fiberglass units.
