A Disaster Of Mega Proportions Brewing In Gulf

I heard on the news, yesterday, that they have already spent 1 billion.

Don't know what they spent it on but I'm sure it's only the beginning.

If it is a "trigger event", then we will all want to know why the fed didn't

get involved in this a lot earlier because, like you said, we will all be paying

for it with not yet printed money.

Remember James Carville saying "we're all dying down here"? Jon stewart

now calls it "The Spilling fields". I'm sure there are others, other than Fox

or the Republicans, criticizing the fed for their lack of response. I don't

really care for either of those two, but they appear to agree that the

government should have acted sooner with at least allowing technology,

manpower and resources to be utilized. They may be fearing the same as

you. I'm wondering if the feds nonaction is intentional for that very

reason. Kind of hard to sue the fed. The current occupant of the White

is either very naive, or is very cunning and maybe he thinks it is a trigger

event that just happened to show up. "Don't let a good emergency go to

waste".

This is big and ugly, but the biggest enviromental disaster of the century can't touch the damage that can be done by an army of slimy Wall Street bankers. Not saying it can't ripple thru the economy and cause problems.

For example, the entire Gulf seafood industry is under 3 billion anually. I don't have a number on tourism. The region could wind up being devastated, but it probably isn't big enough to crash the whole thing. You need professionals for that. Maybe the numbers in my head are wrong.

I'll update when they update, but now they're talking about ADDING ANTIFREEZE to the problem to prevent clogs.

I thought they were going to heat it by pumping seawater thru it.

This is crazy. They're talking about the problem of interfacing to the jagged cut, when they could get a good seal around the flange directly below it. Oil pressure at the top of the BOP is 3500 psi, and the water pressure is 2200, so the differential is only 1300 psi. Well pressure is 9000 psi, so there's a big pressure drop across the BOP. If they restrict the flow with the pipe, the pressure at the top of the BOP will go up. I know they're running the numbers on all of these ideas, but it's not making sense.

Kinda... the saw failed due to binding, so they lopped it off with the big shear. The image of a monkey f***in' a football keeps poping into my head.

The monkey probably manages the football better...

The whole thing reminds me of that. Love that saying by the way.

I'm watching the live feed and the flow looks like it is only about a 12-18" wide. Not sure if that is accurate or not due to depth perception of the camera and whatnot. But there was one of the robots coming up to it, did something, and it looked like the oil flow exploded. I can't tell what they are doing on the video, but they are doing something.

I wonder if ANWR would have caused this much ecological damage. They said it would be so harmful to the environmental:mad:

Wait until the first hurricane hits in the gulf. That's going to be awful.

Maybe. A big hurricane will do a lot to disperse it. Instead of it balling up on the beaches, it should spread it over the entire storm surge area. Think salad oil and water in a blender.

I'm watching the live feed as the blade seems to get stuck over and over. Can't even tell what they're trying to do with the blade at vertical angle. I thought they wanted to make a new and clean cut horizontally to adapt a fitting. Yep. Really looks jammed again. No. It's free again.

So, they're cleaning up the cut with the saw? That's a good thing

What's that monkeyfoot/monkeyball/monkeypaw thingy waving around?

Going to use it to tie things up when they get it capped?

I wonder who swam down there and tied that thing on?

It's to beat the crap out of sharks if they get in the way.

Alien.

New commercial for Viagra.

Ok I'm done. Not sure what that thing is and why it's there.:screwy:

It shows the current and/or direction of water movement. That is why the saw binds I'm guessing. The water pushes the robot while its cutting and the blade binds. Kinda like cutting through wood with a skill saw and having the sawblade bind when you push the saw sideways. Same is true with chainsaws and hand saws.
