Hello all. I went to the range today and tested my new Colt Defender .45 and Ruger LCR .38 and of course put ore rounds through my SA XDm 9mm. All three pistols purchased from Tri Cities Gun Depot

Ruger LCR .38 / 132gr fmj / 7 yards

I bought this gun for my wife so she shot first. The initial recoil caught her by surprise but given the grip design on this gun but she managed it pretty well. She was not having much luck with accuracy but after a bit of coaching she started to do better. It was now my turn. Expecting to do much better than my wife I aimed and fired. To my surprise I was not hitting nowhere near where I thought I should be. After some adjustment (on my part) I got better. The black front and rear sights takes some getting used to. The front sight can be hard to line up properly (for us) so I may go with a fiber optic front sight or CT laser grips. The trigger is DA (of course) and has a smooth operation. Overall, the gun performed very well. The weight and size of this pistol makes it great for an EDC for my wife. The grip has a gel pad at the rear towards the top that reduces felt recoil in the hand. Good job Ruger.

Colt Defender .45 / 90 Series / 230gr fmj & 185gr ftx / 7,15 & 25 yards

Well all I can say here is that this gun performed flawlessly. I put 100 rounds through the pistol without a hitch. Accuracy was good (for first time shooting). Recoil for a smaller frame .45 was very manageable. the sights were easy find and put on target. I have read where some do not like the grips on this pistol but I found them very comfortable. The only negative is this. The beavertail safety wore on the top of my hand. I would like to do something about this so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. This pistol is definitely a keeper and will be my EDC. There are a lot of naysayers out there about this pistol but I can tell you if you are thinking about getting one....DO IT you want regret it.

Springfield Armory XDm 9mm / 115gr fmj / 7,15 & 25 yards.

This pistol is awesome. So far I have shot 500 rounds through this pistol with ZERO malfunctions. I convinced my wife to shoot several rounds and she loved it. If I am not careful she may want it. Hey, that may not be a bad thing. It would give me an excuse to get the new XDm .45 (of course I will be getting one anyway).

I hope you enjoy this novice's range report.

I've been thinking about the TruGlo TFO's. I have not read anything about their performance specifically on the XDm 9mm.
