And once again, it was more know-it-all, I'm absolutely right no matter what, gun shop clerk-type unsolicited advice and opinions that got us here.

A S&W 40 cal. auto would do the job.I suggest"BUDS GUNSHOP"

Actually, I was just answering the question. I get to do that too. ;)

My answer was I wouldn't buy either, but I'd pick the XD over the Glock because it's safer.

Then we started with the standard, Glocks are god's gift to humanity posts.

Yep we all have opinions. I've backed my "conclusions" up in many threads before, with supporting arguments. I haven't seen any of the Glock deists do that.

its about the same size as your XD (4") but it makes a great nightstand/Home defense rig...

why wouldn't you use the same gun to carry and set on the nightstand? Is a nightstand gun better than a carry gun? Do you want a lesser gun for one than the other?

;)

Hmmm...someone simply says he doesn't see anything wrong with carrying a Glock, and you twist that into claiming it's "God's gift to humanity." You exaggerate more than a woman. And I remember a thread not too long ago, where I tried for three pages of thread to drag some kind of "supporting argument" out of you and DaveTN as to what was wrong with Glocks, and all I got was how other guns were better with no explanation. Talk about proselytizing. I may get on here and defend Glocks a lot, but I have said many times they are definitely not perfect. But the only times I go off about them is after being provoked; unlike you, I don't look down my nose and lecture all the ignorant underlings about what they should and should not carry. The only wannabe "deist" on this forum is you.

Well, that explanation, although I don't fully agree with it, is more rational than anything I got on the other thread I mentioned. Glocks don't have "unsupported" chambers, but they don't have "fully" supported chambers, either. Few pistols do. I pulled the barrel out of my brother's SIG 239 (my old gun) and compared it with my Glock 27 barrel. NEITHER was fully supported. Some who rant about the Glock chamber would be shocked after comparing the two side-by-side, and I suspect many have never bothered. I plan to inspect a few other brands of .40 barrels, just for the heck of it. I know Glocks have A HAIR less support than most makes, and I will not reload .40 ammo for it as a result. The .40 is such an unforgiving round that I will probably never reload it for ANY gun. That said, I bet I could produce high quality, precision .40 ammo on a single stage press that would function well every time in a Glock. However, the time required and the cost of doing it vs. mass-producing it on a progressive reloader would defeat the purpose--I would be better off just buying factory ammo, which is what I do anyway.

Unsupported chamber and volatility of the .40S&W round.

So I suppose you do not like the 1911 either. Because they do not have a fully supported chamber. And the volatility of the .40S&W would be a reason to dislike the caliber not a particular gun. Earlier generation Glock .40S&W pistols did have some ammo related kB issues. But guess what you can find plenty of pictures of other .40 S&W pistols that blew up also. Glock has since changed to a fully supported chamber in their .40 series guns. Next point?

I get the strange feeling I have had this conversation before. This all seems so familiar did someone say something about open carry?

Open carry is just inviting trouble. AR is superior to AK. J-Frame is the greatest pocket gun in the world. Glocks suck. Wheelguns Rule! Everyone here hates Yeager(even if they do not know who he is). There is some super secret Bubba militia in Smyrna near the airport. And basically we are all just a bunch of Hockey Pucks!:D

Mike, you might as well drop it. This has been discussed and evidence cited numerous times in other threads. But if you don't repeat that evidence every time it is requested in every thread, it doesn't exist for some reason. There is plenty of evidence. Just Google Glock Kaboom. You get over 22,000 hits.

I do not believe that the 1911 and the .45 ACP it uses is as big a problem as a .40S&W.

Isn't the .45 a lower powered round generally?

Mike, you might as well drop it.

I only mentioned it in response to a post where someone wanted some factual input.

Personally I have not seen anything about a glock that makes me want one. And no one has presented any sound reasoning to make me want one over what I already own.
