I would get a Rock Island 1911. But thats just me.

Do you, or anyone else, have any experience in the Rock Island line?

RIAs are great guns. If you want just your basic 1911 at a great price, the RIA is it. I've heard almost no negative comments on their guns and from what I hear (never had to use it) their customer service is top notch.

Ok, say you had $400.00

what kind of semi-auto pistol would you buy for CCW.

9mm or 40cal would be ideal.

Back to the original question.

I wouldn't buy any Glock-like handgun. Deadly serious .

I kid around a lot about that. Glocks are fine handguns for some uses, but not for CCW.

XD is a far better choice. But I wouldn't go that way either. I'd go with some are that can be de-cocked and re-cocked.

I was thinking about trading in my Sigma 9ve..its about the same size as your XD (4") but it makes a great nightstand/Home defense rig...so if you can, you may wanna hold on to the XD9

just a suggestion...

It truely is amazing at how quickly your (at least mine did) taste will change once you start reading on these gun boards and start fondleing new stuff in the shops. Before I get one bought off of my wish list, I've already got one to replace it with.:)

For me it's a Glock 26 or 27 - If I need to go lighter and thinner it's the Kel-Tec PF9. There is nothing wrong with carrying a Glock for CCW. There are really many choices - even in the $400 range - and good choices at that. I know it's not in your price range - but I have had my eyes on the Springfield EMP - what a sweet gun. Have fun on your quest. Two things I like shopping for - tools & firearms. Nothing like knowing you have some money burning a hole in your pocket waiting for that perfect gun.

i carried a glock 27 for years and you will not find a better gun for CCW. come to think of it I can't think of anything wrong with the gun.

Why is it that your main function in this forum(and perhaps life) is to stimulate conflict? Before you respond with your standard "I am here to exchange ideas and debate posistions....blah..blah" think about that for a minute. You are a so called "Super Moderator" on this forum and yet the last time I was on this board you were unlocking other peoples threads just so you could get the last word in. Opinions are like a$$holes everybody has one. That does not mean you have to be one you hockey puck!

Congratulations on the Kahr Canynracer. They are great little guns.
