Thank goodness we have the video to dispute all the wonderful "teddy bear" qualities this man posessed. I feel sorry for the family he foolishly left behind but I Thank the Almighty for officers like this one who can go home to his family and kids.

Might have been a re-post but it was my first time seeing it .

I'm glad he took the nut out.One less mouth to feed in prison .One more nutbag off the street. And most of all glad the cop made it out unscathed!

+1 that guy deserved what he got. Glad the cop made it home for supper.

And you get the award for the best combination of avatar/user name. ;)

But according to some forum members here the officer should have asked if the guy had an HCP before reacting to seeing a gun??

I think I may have missed something but the officer wasn't just reacting to seeing a handgun. He was reacting to having that handgun aimed and fired at him. That is a little different than an officer reacting to simply seeing a gun.

From the obit:

When Thane came back to the valley after a long absence, he found not everyone was as forgiving as he was.

Yeah, dang that officer for not being more 'forgiving' for having had a handgun aimed at his head and having shots fired at him.

Really? How many seconds difference do you think he had? ;)

Between what? I honestly don't know the background argument that is going on.

Are you suggesting that a cop should draw his weapon if he so much as sees a firearm in a holster on a driver's side during a traffic stop? Are you suggesting he should draw if the driver has a firearm in the seat with his hand on it? What are you suggesting?

Of course an officer should take action for his or her own safety. That said, jumping the gun (pun intended) can end in situations like this:
