Handgun Insurance

Didn't see anything about firearm insurance posted anywhere. I am talking about replacement insurance.

I recently received coverage from State Farm which covers ANYTHING-lost, stolen, broken...they said anything. No deductible. For $1,200 in coverage it cost me around $25 for the year. This beat adding it to the home owners insurance and having to pay a $500+ deductible.

If you insure your firearms, what do you pay per year?

I have state farm and it covers everything. for 40,000 dollars it cost me 50 bucks a month but def worth it

I checked into it several years ago, and fireproof safes seemed to be a better investment than the insurance. If you're like most of us, you have some that no ammount of insurance could replace.

The issue I have with State Farm is that my agent informed me that I could add as much firearm insurance as I wanted for a very reasonable rate, but I have to call them and update the policy each time I acquire a new firearm.

Hell, they'd drop me because they'd get tired of answering my phone calls to "update"!

I started to get a separate policy for my guns with State Farm until they said they would need a detail list with descriptions and serial numbers. I decided if they had that info and the government wanted it, they would surrender it. I think the NRA would resist longer than State Farm.

Guess I'd better look at mine...it's renters I've had for 12 years, figgered everything I have was covered (50K worth).

NRA members have $1000 in coverage for firearms and accessories. They have a vendor that offers good rates on firearm insurance. I think 10K coverage is about $150 a year, $0 deductible.

State Farm told me the same

I'm confused. Doesn't the government already have our serial numbers? How else would we get reports that say X% of guns used in violent crime were sold from Y store?

I know when I got my gun at Guns and Ammo they copied the serial number and had me sign in several places. What do they do with that information? Does it just go to the manufacturer?

OS, definitely take a look at it. I thought my State Farm homeowner insurance would cover mine too, but after talking to my agent one day, I found out that they only cover up to a certain amount (I think it was $1k total). I have to have a separate rider on my policy to cover all guns. Unlike the previous poster, I don't worry about State Farm having my serial numbers, etc., I just don't feel like calling them and updating it every time I buy or sell a gun. I'd almost never get off the phone with 'em.

I think when dad asked about replacements of guns State Farm said they would under the home owners policy but we had to submit a list of the guns and serial numbers.

I pay $1.62 per $100 value of my guns thru NRA Gun Ins.

Liberty Mutual insures me up to $2,000, but I have a pistol and rifle that costs more than that to replace. So now they want me to have them appraised. Who in the heck does firearms appraisals around La Vergne?
