Scrapping Military Brass update:

Recommended Posts

Posted

for those of you who weren't aware, several weeks ago, there was another attempt to scrap and destroy once fired military brass. The last time this happened in 2009, companies like Georgia Arms and others who depend on this supply of brass had major layoffs and the impact on the shooting community was significant with serious and long term implications. Many of us, myself included immediately contacted our elected officials with outrage and enouragement to stop this wasteful and unlawful act.

As you may or may not know, attempts by any US contractor to destroy military brass was unlawful. (regardless of their agenda)

Recently, this most recent attempt was quickly addressed and headway was made on behalf of the shooting community.

Please read the following link:

NRA-ILA :: Progress Made On Military Once-Fired Brass Issue

Please take the time to contact your elected representative, in particular the two noted in this story and thank them for their efforts to see that the law is upheld.

This fight will come again... and it is but only one small step in the effort to control guns. It is obvious to the socialists in charge that taking away firearms will be very tough. Hence, diminishing the supply of ammunition, controlling it (microstamping and all that it entails) or taxing to death those who use ammunition will be a seriously considered option.

The 2009 stoppage was only about a week before it was rectified, so I don't know about these "major layoffs" and "long term implications".

You are correct Sir.

thank you for pointing out my oversight.

I went back and did more study...

When the original event occured in March 2009, GA arms posted a letter on their website indicating they had layed off employees. All sales of 9mm, 5.56 and .308 were stopped. I know this because i tried to purchase.

I don't know the number if any who 's jobs were affected.

that said, the attempt to demil and destroy brass was real and brass sales were stopped, even if for a short time. and not surprising, it happened again just a few short weeks ago.

Thanks again OhShoot.
